1982-1983 season is regarded as one of the best if not the best by a NHL-rookie both on and of the rink. Minnesota win their division much thanks to Jack who end the season one point ahead of the rookie season of Wayne Gretzky. Minnesota ends on 110 points. Minnesota then swept Toronto and won 4-3 against Chicago. Then they faced Edmonton with Wayne Gretzky. It was a wild offensive series that went to a game 7. Game 7 went into overtime were Wayne scored the final goal on the first offense. Jack won the Calder trophy
1983-1984 season Minnesota yet again advanced to face Edmonton and lose 4-2. Jack is in the top in every table, but Wayne is always on top
Jack would continue to be a super star in a team that fails to even reach the Stanley cup final until Wayne left Edmonton
1988-89 season Minnesota won their division comfortably and Jack became the first player to score 100 goals in a season with 105 goals and he also managed 90 assists. In the play offs it seemed that the team could do no wrong. 4-0 against Vancouver and then the revenge when Jack led the team against Waynes Los Angeles and 4-0. Then Chicago was swept with 4-0. Now it was time for the Stanley cup. Minnesota was up 3-0 against Montreal when Jack was injured in game 4 and broke an arm. Montreal managed to win two games, but in game 6 Minnesota won the cup. But attendance in Minnesota was not that great and it was only in game 6 that the arena was filled during the entire season. Jack decided to move on when his expired after the season and in one of the biggest moves in NHL-history Jack was traded to New York Rangers
For a few seasons Jack and Wayne continued their battle who was the best and then suddenly Los Angeles owner did something unexpected and in 1993 Wayne Gretzky was also traded to Rangers. 1993-1994 The coach decided to place Gretzky as center and Jack one of the wingers and Adam Graves as the other winger. The trio was all in the top five in every cathegory except penalties. Wayne got the most points in the league becauce of all his assists. If Wayne was the master passer Jack became a master assassin as he was the top scorer in the league and often on a direct pass from Wayne. Adam Graves more often than once scored on rebounds from a shot from one of the other two. New York Rangers stormed to get the most points of the seasons.
In the playoffs there was never a question Islanders were swept by 4-0 in the confrence quarter finals, Washington was swept in the confrence semi-final and New Jersey was a tougher nut to crack but Rangers won the confrence final with 4 games to 2.The Stanley cup final was against Vancouver and Rangers lost the first game in over time, but then the magical trio showed why they were the best.
Gretzky assisted to five goals in the second game, Jack scored four and Graves one when Rangers won 7-3.
In game three Jack assisted three to Gretzkys goals and two of Graves goals and scored two himself when Rangers crushed Vancouver with 11-2
In game four Jack and Grezky let Graves have fun and both assisted him to four goals when Rangers won 7-0
Game five was played in Madison Square garden. Vancouver had lost all intrest in continue the series as they felt they had no chance. How right hey were

After the game in 1994 Jack decided to retire from playing hockey and instead he decided to take care of his father that was dying of cancer
After his father died in 1996 Jack became something of a hermit. He isolated himself and only his personal assistants and his siblings came by with food and to look in on him. Jack suffered a depression after leaving hockey and felt that he had no value in the world. He had never married and had no children.
1999 Jack showed up at Dallas stars reunion for the franschise first Stanley cup. People was chocked when Jack showed up wearing a big beard and overweight. Jack had also a gambling problem
Jack was in his appartment on September 11 2001 and had a perfect view of the events from his home. But he was in such a bad state that he almost did not notice anything out of the ordinary. His twin Bobby managed to get to his apartment a few days later and managed to get Jack to a hospital. Upon discharge he was sent to a rehab clinic. His money was almost gone but fans of the teams he played for, his relatives and players helped him.
In early 2002 he was out of rehab and now went to a shrink every week to get his life in order. New York Rangers gave him a job as a janitor.
