Peshawar Lancers Redux: Asia

The Empire of the Rising Sun was moving northward toward the border with Russia its goal to crush the last resistance to the Empire's control of China by any armed Chinese group including bandits. The British were carrying out probes of Northwestern China with the Tibetan Scouts. The Imperial forces had made contact with Tibetan forces but had not fired on them. Talks between the Tibetans and the Japanese were correct but there was some distrust. The arrival of a British officer who spoke Tibetan, Chinese and Japanese helped to ensure that there were no mistakes.

The Empire of the Rising Sun was heavily dependent upon getting resources to keep the Empire going . For now a lot of resources were coming from China but there was a need for some of the newer resources such as oil. Fortunately the Empire was able to broker a deal through Hawaii which allowed it to purchase oil for the Empire. The Empire was now seeing a struggle between the Army and the Navy over resources. The Navy was well aware that the British Empire was going to do something regarding the Royal Navy and the Empire's Embassy in Hawaii was also aware that that country was working on something to do with capital ships. All of the Empire of the Rising Suns capital ships were ships that mounted 4 large caliber guns.

The Imperial Parliament of the Empire of the Rising Sun agreed to an increase in spending on new ships for the Imperial Navy. When the British Government learned of this move one Admiral said that it looked like the beginning of a Naval Arms Race.

The Imperial Army was somewhat taken aback to run into the Tibetans and the British on their way north. It was pointed out by the British Officer who spoke not only Tibetan but Japanese and Chinese that the Imperial forces were on the Tibetan side of the border. While the Imperial Army Forces totaled nearly 7,000 and their Tibetan border forces totaled a little over 35 it would be a mistake to under estimate the Tibetans. They knew the land and the resources the Japanese did not . Not only that but at least 120 Tibetan Scouts were not that far away. Still The Japanese Colonel had been told that he was not to cause any trouble with the British or their allies. Already word had arrived that Imperial forces were on the wrong side of the border and a Battalion of Gurkha's supported by a mountain Battery of Artillery and a troops of Tibetan Cavalry were on the way.

The arrival of Force Williams ( BattalioN of Gurkha and troop of Tibetan Cavalry) brought the Anglo-Tibetan forces up considerably. They were joined by 2 companies of the Royal Tibetan Scouts. The Japanese Colonel was impressed at the rapid response and with the arrival of his superior the Imperial forces General expressed his regrets for the crossing of the border and immediately moved off. The Japanese General was quite angry at the Colonel for his failure to make sure that Imperial forces were not over the border.

It appeared that the Empire of the Rising Sun was following the Treaty and respecting the border. The Royal Flying Service was flying some airships over Northwestern China and into Russia. A decision was made to set up border post. The Tibetan Scouts were quite sure that they could sneak about in China and not be caught by the Imperial forces. Rumor had it that the Russians were supplying the Chinese with weapons and were training them in the use of Mortars and mountain guns. A British officer was sure that the Russians would guide attacks on the Japanese.

British Intelligence was sure that with improving weather in the world that the Slumbering Russian Bear was awaking and would soon begin to cause trouble for not only the Empire of the Rising Sun but for the British, Austro-German Empire, Ottomans and the Poles.

The Empire of the Rising Sun's Army units that moved into Northwestern China were stunned to find that the Chinese population living there were willing to fight nd die rather than live under the rule of the Rising Sun. As British Intelligence had speculated the Russian Bear had awoken and had no desire for the Japanese to be on the border region. Russian Arms and instructors taught the Chinese population how to fight. It quickly became apparent that any supply column would need protection against the attacks by insurgents.
The Imperial Army was suffering loses and it was the death of a thousand cuts. To win the fight the Imperial forces would need to be massively increased with new roads and rail connections. This meant the use of more resources and and Government decided to pull back.

The Empire of the Rising Sun carried out punitive actions in Northwestern China and then withdrew to a fortified strong point in the southern most part o the region. It was found that the Imperial Army was suffering repeated attacks on its supply lines making staying any further north in the region too painful.

The Empire of the Rising Sun was attempting to develop its own air ships so it might bomb the hell out of the insurgents of northwestern China. Until then it would gather forces and launch punitive raids on the devils.

Hawaii's King and Prime Minister welcomed the visit of the heir to the Empire of the Rising Sun to Hawaii. There was a formal dinner and the King and his wife played host to this key Monarch. He surprised everyone by talking of trade and acknowledging the strong relations between the two nations. He extended an invitation to the Hawaiian Royals to visit the Japanese Homeland.

The French were well aware that they lived in a fragile world. There was a lot of Concern about the Empire of the Rising Sun and how much of a threat it may or may not be to the French Colonies of IndoChina. The Kingdom of Siam was also stiriing and it had claims on the French territory of Cambodia.

The Hawaiians were Constructing a new diplomatic complex in the Philippines. The Hawaiian had granted a lot of scholarships which had allowed natives of the country to attend the Royal College of Hawaii. Some had returned to their homeland to be teachers while others had attended further schooling to become Doctors or engineers. The Royal Hawaiian Military had trained a lot of the new Filipino military and it had trained more nurses. The country had a shortage of doctors and other medical professionals. The gap was being closed but it still would exist after independence. Hawaii was well aware that in a little over a year the Spanish Colonial Government and Military would be gone.
