Out of the Dark

Has anyone read the book Out of the Dark by David Weber? It could be considered AH because although most of the book takes place in 2012 the POTUS is a woman. It reminds me quite a bit of the Worldwar series by Turtledove, but with an element of fantasy.
Spoiler alert: Apparently there is an interstellar alliance called the Hegemony made up of different races most of whom are descended from herbivores, but at least one of the races is descended from predators. A Hegemony ship stumbles upon Earth during the early Middle Ages and they record one of the battles between the French and the British. They are appalled and vow when they get back that they will recommend that Earth is conquered by one of the predator races, the Shongari. The problem is that when they get to Earth it is 2012. They see what they consider a Type 2 civilization as we have atomics, jet power, computers, etc. but they consider us less than bright as we apparently do not have a world government and we fight our wars with less than a total effort and ruthlessness. So they decide to drop rocks on most major cities and military installation under the impression that we will then surrender. Needless to say we do not and their technological lead is not very large as other than antigravity and interstellar travel. Things do not look well for their invasion so in their frustration they decide to create a bioweapon to kill us all and take over. Unfortunately, worse is yet to come for them as one of the American soldiers ends up in Romania and ends up in an alliance with Count Dracula.

Sounds like Worldwar with vampires tbh.
it pretty much is but it makes a decent romp, though i recommend vorrowing from the library

Okay aside from the vampires the book is actually more plausible than Worldwar

The survey in 1430 and in 600 or so years expect to encounter 1600's-1700's tech

They use their orbital superiority well

Their ground equipment is sub par enough to give humans a chance but for a believable reason, it's good enough to bash wogs, and civilized powers will surrender damn quick, and the navy is eating up all the funding

They are not near as static as the Race, and humanity while really quick to advance is not so quick to be beyond comparison

and finally without the vampire Deus ex machina humanity was still losing, but was just making it too expensive for them
