In the Chinese Civil War the Japanese backed Shanghai government of Hania/ Handkokuo, the Han Chinese Nmational State and the Mengkukuo/ Inner Mongolian and Manchurian/ Manchukuo autonomous provinces of theirs battled against the left-wing rebels of the Wuhan government in Wuhan, Hubei, Guangxi and Shanxi, as well as minor rebel cells in the other Hania provinces. Beside these Hankukuo also claimed the territory of the Ma Clique, the Sichuan Clique and the Yunnan Clique, all operating in Central China, as well as the regions of Outer Mongolia, Tibet and Xinjiang/ Eastern Turkestan as rightful parts of China. At the same time some of their Japanese allies, as well as members of Menkukuo and Manchuria claimed only the national Chinese Han regions for China and viewed the rest, especially own ethnic and religious minority regions, they did not wish to see falling to the Han Chinese, as Japan otherwise feared their Chinese allies might dominate East Asia, which was why they supported local ethnic and religious autonomous minority provinces, if not outright independent local Chinese Nation States instead, like they had planned in Menkukuo and Manchuria. While the Chinese Nationalist controlled the flatland and coastlines of the East, the rivaling left-wing government dominated much of the mountains, hills and river valleys of central and southern China. Portugal meanwhile joins the Latin Union and draws closer ties to the Spanish Fascists by forming the Iberian Pact in Lisbon to further unite the Iberian Peninsula in preparation of a new major European War. Unlike the Axis meanwhile and more so like the Soviet Union, the Latin Union forms open borders, a custom and trade union, as well as overall equality and cooperation between it’s members. By now all former eastern German and Prussian borders are retaken from Poland-Lithuania including Silesia, Posen, West Prussia and Memel. Meanwhile the Axis pressures Romania with Hungarian and Bulgarian forces to join the Axis Powers and the Anti-Comintern Pact, supposedly to secure Romanian Oil Fields against Soviet Union ambitions and the Red Army, resulting in protests by the Latin Union and the British alike. With the Chinese focused on one another in their Civil War and the Americans and British unwilling to take a clear side, the reports of American adventurer Richard Halliburton across the Chinese Nation and the Pacific on a Chinese junk increase public interest once more. Meanwhile the British guarantee the borders of Europe and local independent nation states, unless they are changed by a League of nations decision.
