Map Thread XXII

I’m pretty sure there’s not a million people in that region today, and I doubt the establishment of Jewish state there would make the non-Jewish population explode in size.
There's not even 50,000, and frankly it's absurd to think millions of poor Jewish refugees could somehow establish a self-sustaining economy in an area where lifestyles other than hunter-gatherer need to be subsidized by more livable regions. Might as well load the Jews on rockets and have them homestead Mars.

Come to think of it, given the importance of Jewish writers in the development of the field, there's a distinct lack of actual Jews In Space in science fiction. Where's our Jewish Mars colony novel?

- It's a unicameral parliamentary republic, with no official head of state.; NAL and Florida fought together in the American Revolution, although Florida disagreed with Benny boy's whole dictator shtick, and so didn't join the union. They were officially recognized as independent under Benny's successor, Isaac Rosenvelt, and now Florida has a mutual defense agreement with the NAL, and their citizens can vote in national elections (along with the citizens of Diné, Maine, Mi'kmaq, Aotearoa, and all of the nations of the Pacific Islands Alliance)
Sorry for replying so late; just really curious about these joint citizenship arrangements the NAL have. I don't think there's any OTL equivalent to them - even the closest alliances doesn't come with universal joint citizenship, and dual citizens have always been a very small minority with negligible effects on politics and foreign relations.

How did these arrangements came to be in the first place, why did the NAL accept them, and how do they work at all? Allowing foreigners to influence your politics through the ballot is a pretty big cession of sovereignty; what does the NAL get in return - do foreigners eligible for voting have to pay NAL taxes or are subjected to NAL laws in some way? And do NAL citizens get to reciprocally vote in foreign elections?

Also, the fact that Nysuomi is explicitly Societist imply that the NAL allows more diversity in state-level governance compared to the US. Are there other states with divergent regimes, and how does the NAL reconcile this with federal authority?

If I had to take an almost unpopulated region of Canada and make into state with million of inhabitants, I would go with Labrador. While also also not a good place to live, you at least could sail to it (and get food to it) and it have a somewhat better climate. It would be no worse than living in Norway.

What if Swedish Pomeranian Survived?
eiXEAO5.png

From its capture in 1648, Swedish Pomerania has become an integral part of the Kingdom of Sweden. Immediately the focus of Swedish and Finnish immigrants to the region in search for warmer climates (well the South Germans would dispute the idea of Northern Germany having warm climates, but in comparison to Sweden and Finland.....) and incentives created by the Swedish Monarchy for loyal Swedes to settle down in the area. Despite many wars waged, the Swedish foothold on Germany remained and in 1815, the Swedish Pomeranian provinces joined the German Confederation despite being a part of Sweden. However, in 1858, the Swedes withdrew and started to prepare for conflict. In a humiliating disaster for the Prussians, the 1862 Prussian-Swedish War ended in Prussian defeat an Swedish Pomerania survived. The apathy of the city german elites to the invading Prussians sent alarm bells into Stockholm and further incentives for loyal Swedes and Finns to settle down were made, boosting immigration into the region whilst assimilationist policies were also implemented. In WW1, the Sweden joined the entente powers when Germany pre-emptively attacked the region due to its proximity to Berlin. The region, barring the islands were occupied for the rest of the war, but Sweden regained the lost territory, ignoring the calls of some for the region to be handed to Germany. In WW2, Nazi Germany occupied the region forcing the swedes to join the Allies and lead the Allied Liberation of Norway in 1943. In early 1945 just a few weeks before Victory Day, Swedish marines, aided by Soviets and British landed and began its liberation back into Swedish hands. Due to its strategic location, it became a neutral meeting point for NATO and the USSR during the col war and is today an integral yet autonomous part of the Kingdom of Sweden.

it's not my birthday : (

So which country is the least controlled by Japongolia?
Happy future birthday!
The least... I guess it's German peasant republic.

I like the lost Mongol fleet colony! I vaguely remember a tl here based on this. And Poul Andersons Time Patrol story where they thwart the lost Mongols..
Oops, I forgot to mention it is based on TL the Horse and the Jaguar: https://www.alternatehistory.com/forum/threads/the-horse-and-the-jaguar.316213/

Labrador has a climate which is subarctic in the south and tundra in the north. A lot of coastal Norway has a maritime climate with mild winters, while there's warm-summer continental in the south. I suppose it's like living in inland Norway...

Given the vast multitude of popes, how poor of a shape is Western Christianity in?
As someone who also happens to have a project with five Popes, it's not necessarily small overall. Many people could be following those churches, though not many are following any given one. Of course, it's different -- the Popes of Mongol Japan are divided by politics and invasion, not ideology, and have a chance to reconcile; the Popes of the Sidemoving have five distinct ideologies -- conservatism, socialism, liberalism, reactionism, and futurism -- and these churches are NOT reconciling. Ever.

The Tsefevin Republic is the only Jewish majority state in the world and was established by the British and Americans in the year 1948. In its beginning years instability engulfed the region since Canada still claimed the territory and the majority of the population was not Jewish. Some people were considering to end this state. In 1958, the project of Judea began to operate which encouraged Jews around the world to immigrate to the Tsefevin republic. In 1970 the nation reopened relations with Canada and joined NATO in 1972. As of recently the republic has been isolationist except to Canada and the US.
What would be the economy of this republic ? Apart from fishery, it has virtually no agriculture, no known mineral resources, no oil and is so far from trade route/infrastructure that supply and trade would be difficult.
I dont know how it would reach the GDP of OTL New Zealand.

(EDIT: The map is very nice, tho. Good work by Blue_Brick489 on that !)

I agree that it isn't terribly plausible, though there is oil all along that coastline from Prudhoe Bay to the Mackenzie Delta
