After several years starting and retstarting maps with the QBAM in paint and never posting them, I give you my first attempt (after several restarts) to make a map in inkscape. I will probably come back to it some time in the future to add internal and external divisions, so let's do this:cool:

Thanks. Going to try to do the Great Pacific Desert soon. I do worry I might be making it a little too dry.

To the LRA or Alasaka? :p

I think the snake river area or Alaska or the area in between. I have always liked that area.

That desert in the Pacific would be the great divide on this world, and the former Islands the Oasis of the that desert, absolutely vital to survival. I think it would be like a larger Sahara Desert, my problem and no offense is that the Atlantic is a much smaller ocean and where the divide is should be African style savannah grassland or at best American desert or Australian Outback. In the former Indian an area like the deserts of Central Asia.

Hope you know a Chinese language then. The PRNA never shut it's borders to Chinese immigration, and with the multiple civil wars the Chinese had there's been a lot of refugees moving in.

The issue with the Atlantic is the widest bit is ~30 degrees north, with is where desert belts tend to form. Ad to that the otl East Coast being a cold water current zone and it's set up to be nearer to North Africa than anything really.

Up north the issue is more altitude. Too much rain is lost on the otl Continental Slope, so the Abyssal plateau is rather dry. That's an issue for a lot of the planet.

Hmmm, that is an issue then but historically speaking that region is largely mountainous and the further North you go very remote I can imagine them gathering along the coasts and major rivers also mines but not to much into frozen wilderness.

along the equator I can see being more scrub like I described earlier the distances are to small there to be of much of an issue you are correct in your statement I can see being much more Australian Outbackish than Saharan.

I don't know how Poland got that much of Germany and at this point I'm to afraid to ask. And how did Polen survive the Partitions? But who am I to question greatness!:D

The POD is way back in the 13th century, in Anatolia to be exact, and Germany will never exist, outside of extremist pan-ethnic groups that is. It also helps that the HRE weekened and then disbanded earlier than OTL.

Even in 1200 AD, Saxony (later version) was German... http://germanitas.org/rpg/insula/images/europe1200.jpg

(I'll buy a united Polish-eastern German kingdom with the Poles in the drivers seat, but all that territory west of the Oder Polonized? Did the Mongols come through and push everyone westwards or something?)

This timeline is definitely just for fun, so take everything with a grain of salt:p.
But you have the beginning of Polish divergent history correct, the populations of the Red Cities and Podlasie were driven to the western portions of Polish/Piast territory. Then the Black Death happens mostly on schedual. Also the late 14th century and early 15th century saw the Saxonies and East German territories (along with much of OTL's northern and eastern France) suffer horrific decimation in Religious Wars.
For comparison here is a WIP map of this timeline in 1325, again remember this is just for funnsies.:D

They are mostly along the coast, but more are moving to the interior because there's only so much good land along the coast. The Fraser and Columbia river valleys are slowly beginning to fill up.

Along the equator I might make it a bit wetter, but the bit between Florida and the Sahara will be staying desert.

A WIP that I've been.... working on. Yeah.

The year is 1998.

Hmmm...interesting, a few questions come to mind but the first and formost would be; why St. Petersburg? I can't see why they'd have Leningrad being changed and even if it had to be I'd imagine Petrograd way before St. Petersburg being considered.

I'm still working out the details, but the idea is that Stalin never gets into power. Instead Bukharin takes over, and starts some reforms that his successors continue. The Soviet Union never really becomes "Communist" but instead just Socialistic. By modern day, the RSFR leads a close knit alliance called the Black Sea Economic Zone that has had economic success and growth comparable to today's China.

On the other hand, TTL's China is about to go under a break up similar to the Soviets in 1991.

GAH! Did Germany intervene in the Russian civil war or what? Also those Marxist slave revolts have got to be tempting the US into "intervening" in the South.

Here's a map of "South America" from my first TL (which I recently started work on again!), Vikings in the New World. Hopefully I can get a mapmaker to make an entire world map for me (B_Munro or Rvbomally, hopefully. Maybe I can win Reagent's map contest thingy):
