Map of the Fortnight: Main thread

Okay, I'll switch it to the more general wording to allow for sub-national disputes. Edit: I changed it to "show an alternate territorial dispute", since that would technically allow for sea and space based disputes too, even though I doubt entries of that sort will be likely.

Didn't we do this challenge before, recently?

I don't think so - are you thinking of MotF 68: A Mile Between, A World Away ("Make a map showing a region where two opposed major powers share a border.")?

YOU CAN MAKE MAPS ON IPAD ??? :O

Yep! The app is called Inkpad. It's a vector illustration app with all of the basic features of a vector program, except you can use a pen tool with your finger or one of those heat-sensitive pens, which is extremely helpful. I usually trace my basemaps on Inkpad and then open it up in Ilustrator and do all of my fills and special effects on there. It is $7.00, kinda hefty for an app, but it is one of the best I have bought. I would reccommend anybody who does more than QBAMS to buy it. :D

With all that time I could just make an entire movie instead of a map!

Sounds like you have a lot more free time than most people! There are a number of people (myself included) who often don't managed to make a map in the normal two week entry period; the point of MotM contests is to allow people with less free time to enter, and to put less pressure on new entrants.

I'm not sure how well it'll work, but we'll see. :)

Even for those who do have the time, it's not always easy, I mean outside of information/demographic maps I tend to spend along while in maps (I started one a few weeks ago and only have preliminaries for the America's, Western Europe and a small bit of Asia), and I basically have near 100% freetime on account of not being able to find work.

challenges that I would like to have:

The Enemy of
My Enemy

Make a map showing what happens
when, instead of capitalists and
socialists fight against fascists, this
world has fascists and capitalists
team up against the socialists.

The Candle that
Burns Twice as
Bright

Make a map showing a great but
short-lived empire. OTL examples
could include the Napoleonic French
Empire, the Mongol empire, or the
Nazi German empire.

Before and After
Make a map showing the world or a
continent before and after one World
War.

Well, I'm not sure if you have noticed, but I haven't entered myself in a pretty long time. (which exactly coincides with when I got my new job, some coincidence eh?) :p

When is the MotM going to be? July? Or right after #81?

It depends on whether MotF 81 is extended or not. The actual rule I'm using is that the MotM round begins immediately after the first MotF round that ends within a week (before or after) of the beginning of July. In effect, this means that it should start after MotF 82 ends on the 7th of July, but if MotF 81 is extended by one week then it will start immediately after that on the 30th of June. :)

I'll be choosing the challenge for the MotM contest, but I'd appreciate suggestions, especially suggestions supported by explanations regarding why they'd be good for the MotM contest. I'm generally looking for a challenge that's uncomplicated and allows a wide variety of types of maps.

Here's a suggestion: Special Treatment, show a Hong Kong-style Special Administrative Region where a small enclave of a country is, for almost all intents and purposes, separate. The territory can be larger than a city.

"For almost all intents and purposes, separate" is very vague - I'm really not sure what would count under that description. Could you try rewriting that to be more specific?

This isn't finished, but I wanted to show it off anyway:

Example New Victory Roundel.png

It's a work in progress of the new design for Honoured Victory awards. I think the sealions need a bit more work, and I'm not sure about the arrangement of text ('challenge name, "Honoured Victory", round number, username' doesn't make much sense, but it does look quite good), but this is roughly what the finished version will look like. If you have any suggestions for changes, please do tell me!

I will note that the awards now say "Honoured Victory" instead of "Honoured Winner" in order to be more consistent with the "Honourable Mention" awards, which note the name of the award rather than the title of the award recipient.

I'm planning on making a new design for the entry thread roundels (though they probably won't change much) as well as a header/banner for the main discussion thread, which might incorporate some sort of MotF official logo. So, if you have any suggestions for those (especially the MotF logo) I wouldn't mind hearing them!
