Hmmm, I wonder if the Courtenay is an affectation or if he is related to Devonshire nobility
Not AH as such as its future history cyber punk, but having read his Arabesk novels I was struck by how he again revived the French Empire - Third Empire here, Napoleon's III, IV and V at least.
Of course, the central theme of the book revolves around a New Venice replete with Doge and council...
Good book, interesting characters, I'd recommend this one too
