Kingdom of Al Jazira

T.E Lawrence of the Arab Rebellion proposed the region of Upper Mesopotamia/the Jazira be given to Zaid of the Hashemites as a British protectorate, with Iraq under British direct rule.

Here is a map with the Jazira in orange. This was part of a larger setup with OTL Greater Syria under Feisal, International Palestine and Cicilian Armenia.

What would the longterm effects of a Kingdom of Jazira be, and more importantly would its landlocked position leave its people vulnerable?

This kingdom is basically Kurdistan with an Arab king, in that time they might have more Assyrians then Arabs. It might work so long as the British are there, but they will need to reform.

Could the Swiss cantonal model work here for Arabs, Assyrians, Kurds and other groups?

EDIT: Also the Iraqi Turkmens, descendants of Turkic migrants to Iraq.

Well...it might, but this is the middle east, so it will probably implode in a violent ethnic conflict..
Best case scenario is that it becomes a democratic kurdish state that guarantees minority rights for all.
