Haven't read it for donkey's years but thought it was rather good. Mind you, his Nobel Prize, the 1st ever to an American writer, makes you wonder what's wrong with the Literature prize especially when it comes to Americans.
So THAT'S why V got made and was so hyped. I always wondered. It seemed such a routine Invasion of Earth movie, I watched it straight through, waiting for the Big Surprise, the New and Original Plot Twist which never came.
I don't suppose that Lewis' fascists ate people, as straight social commentary that would seem a little over the top, yes?
I've always wanted to read that book. another book in a similar vien is Jack London's "The Iron Heel" (IIRC) written in 1908. I have to read that one too but from what I know of it, it takes place hundreds of years from now where people were discussion the socialist revolution in 1932 due to an economic depression that lead to their present day system. What I do find interesting is it seems Jack London's dates are close to what really happened. Although we didn't go socialist, FDR's social programs started coming onling a year or two after London's date.
