How can the Soviet Union win without excessive loss of life and treasure?

We have just had two threads that ask what would happen if the Soviet Union did particular things in World War II respectively dig-in and attack west first. Let me instead ask a different question. How can the Soviet Union, without attacking first and with Barbarossa going ahead on schedule as in OTL, defeat Nazi Germany and drive it from her territory without the massive loss of life and materiel suffered in OTL? The POD is the moment the first German troops cross the border, no earlier.
For extra bonus kudos how do you propose that the Soviet Union achieves at least as good a strategic position in Europe as it did in OTL again without excessive casualties.

No orders to hold positions and orders for a strategic withdrawl in order to stretch German logistics and deny them any encirclements.

German troops were crossing the border in some numbers several days prior to the actual attack, so that means that a good 'first start' will simply be Stavka listening to the pleas of Richard Sorge, the British, and every single border commander that a German attack seemed obvious, and that they be allowed to deploy their soldiers to meet it. The vast numbers of Soviet aircraft destroyed in the first hours of Barbarossa could easily be saved by the same token measures being taken. Supply depots, from the beginning of the war, could be moved further back, Pavlov could trip and fall on a bullet as quick as possible, generals could be given permission for withdrawals, and... yeah. All of these things would help. Less of Stalin's micro-management would help.
