Historiographic WI: Propper names for NW, E, and S Europe

What is the most recent possible time for Historians and society to come up with propper names for Northwestern Europe, East Europe and South Europe?

Or even better, South Europe to be considered part of the Mediterranean, as in North Mediterranean, and other propper names for Northwestern Europe and for East Europe.

So, one could have fields as "Mediterranean History", "NWE*-an Economical History", or "EE-an Religious History".

In such situation, talking about a "European History" will be as absurd as having a field on "Asian History".

But a single name for the whole of Northwestern Europe, another single name for the whole of East Europe, and a single name for the whole of South Europe.

EDIT: bonus points for coming up with the best time for historians to decide a convencional border for these three regions.
