I doubt it they broke all ties with them and changed their name during the war.

did you know that the British monarchy did all they could to save the Austrian emperor and his family because of the family??? Furthermore, allowing a Monarch to be tried and executed sets a dangerous precedent.

In the UK precedent is EVERYTHING in their law system, allowing it to be done would put the British monarchy in danger.

I think there were many who at least wanted to, but they didn't get the chance to push forward their view.

Under American law, if anyone is killed in the course of another crime, the perpetrators of the crime are considered guilty of felony murder. This applies even if the person killed is one of the perpetrators.

Germany caused the war. Germany intended to cause the war. Wilhelm wanted a war. The consequences of the war rest with him and his generals and ministers.

This is not to say that they are directly responsible for every act of every participant. But they are responsible for conditions resulting from a state of war which they brought about, and of course for specific criminal acts committed by forces under their command executing policies they decreed.

The felony murder rule does not and never has applied to war crimes and affairs of state. In any case, the rule would require you to prove that the Kaiser himself committed a crime--declaring war is not usually considered criminal--and you would need to show some kind of criminal conspiracy linking the Kaiser and the perpetrators of the massacre--armies aren't criminal conspiracies.

Trying to make everything a matter of criminal law is a disease.

The precedent at the time would be not to hang, regardless of the alleged crimes.

Napolean Bonaparte was allowed to live (much bad stuff happened in Spain and Portugal), Jefferson Davis was allowed to live (even though Andersonville happened).
