Vladek Sheybal (1970-1974)
The producers of doctor who had considered a few people for the role of the third doctor which included: Ron Moody (who played fagin in the 1968 version of Oliver), John Le Mesurier (who played Seargent Wilson in dad's army) and Jon Pertwee (who would later play worzel gummidge), after the actors previously considered turned it down, one of the producers suggested Vladek Sheybal, who they saw in a few James bond movies. Sheybal was the first actor to play the doctor who wasn't born in Britain, as he was Polish.
Sheybals doctor was very formal, as he would be seen in his episodes wearing a tuxedo, with the occasional addition of an opera scarf. He was a very serious doctor as well, rarely making any jokes, future doctors would describe him as knowing the most languages (a reference to how Sheybal had known several languages himself) a great chess player, and the most intelligent, in contrast, the first doctor called him an upperclass twit. During this doctors time on earth, he had started to assimilate in the British higher class, he bought a country manor, drove around in a roadster named bessie, and was seen enjoying more higher class activities such as golf, opera and being at dinner parties. One of his main enemies was the master (played by Peter Cushing), other enemies was the daleks, cybermen, ice warriors, and ogrons. His companions were Liz Shaw (Caroline John), Jo Grant (Gabrielle Drake)[1], and Sarah Jane Smith (April Walker). His final adventure (named the final game) saw him battling the master for one last time. This story was written with the intent to write the master out of the show permanently, but it didn't stick.
[1] Apparently Katie Manning was casted as Jo because of a recommendation from Jon Pertwee, since Jon Pertwee isn't cast, Katy Manning isn't cast as Jo then, in her place is Gabrielle Drake, who was considered for the role, also Gabrielle Drake played Jo in Guajolotes Phil won't leave his room Timeline
