They did though? We failed to exterminate them in great numbers, they remain a copious pest to this day.
It would be indeed ASB but there such question probably would be mass death scenario which is strongly discouraged.
I'm pretty sure the Emus at no point possessed WMDs or the sort of C3I necessary to execute a genocide against the Australian population.
Very much ASB:
- In an effort to stem the 'Emu Menace' Australian biologists develop & unleash a tailored disease which does initially reduce the population but the survivors are now carnivorous, near indestructible creatures which can lay up to 50 eggs a year. The new super-emus soon consume most of the cattle & sheep of the interior and begin to move into the cities in search of fresh prey. The last survivors evacuate to Tasmania leaving the continent to its new masters.
