I'm looking for any interesting ways that the thirteen colonies could have stayed separate entities. They all don't have to survive, as I would imagine the larger ones may gobble up the smaller. The one thrown around commonly is the Articles of Confederation without a Constitution, but maybe an argument over funding the Continental Army or recruiting leads to a split?
