Did the adoption of logograms hampered the East Asians civilizations?

Did the adoption of ideograms hampered the East Asians civilizations?

The Chinese one in particular alongside with the Japanese and Vietnamese writing systems ...

Let's say that the Chinese thanks to an enlightened emperor adopt a writing system like the korean Hangul or other Alphabets early in their history, are there going to be dramatic changes in the alternate timeline?

IMO this topic is interesting from an alternate history viewpoint because the adoption of a writing system instead of another at the beginning seems to be a pretty random process.
