The Brusilov Offensive was the turning point for the eastern front, if not the entire war. The Austro-Hungarians eastern front line collapsed due to the sheer pressure and loss of life exerted on them by the Russians along with them being pushed too far and thin to reinforce, Austria-Hungary was essentially defenceless as the Russians began pouring into the east, the German army had to retreat or be outflanked, essentially giving up their gains made in 1915.
Any hope of a Central Powers victory was quashed in the timespan of a single season, the Austro-Hungarian's Italian front collapsed soon after due to mass desertions once the troops learnt of their hopeless situation, the remaining Central Powers fought on for another year before an Entente offensive shattered the western front in mid 1917, combined with a decisive British victory against the Ottomans in Mesopotamia, the Central Powers began surrendering one by one until on at 11:am on the 11th of November 1917, the German government officially signed an armistice with the Entente powers.
What if this was not the case?
