DBWI: No 'Lebhaftigkeit'

Hello all, so as I imagine a great many of you know or will be somewhat familiar with, after the devastation of World War 2 a new art form emerged from Germany, i.e 'Lebhaftigkeit' or Animation. This was simply Cartoons made in Germany and usually targeted at a majority German audience, but whilst the initial cartoons were similar in style to American 'Disney' animation, they began to take on a more Germanic theme, with German customs and behaviour. It should also be added that Lebhaftigkeit tend to have more adult themes, and story telling than contemporary cartoons of the west, the art forms tends to be more realistic with a darker colour pallet and 'human' looking characters, though not all stick to this rule.

By the 1970s it was an art form in its own right with a large german audience for new shows, it was around this time that the United States began to take notice and the first subtitled and later fully English dub Lebhaftigkeit made their way over. Today there is a large and diverse community of Lebhaftigkeit fans across the globe, with a wide variety of shows on offer, there is a definite movement behind the medium and it's style has started to leak into contemporary American and British shows.

So I must ask, who else if not Germany could have developed its own form of Lebhaftigkeit, what would it look like and what would it be called? And what is your favourite 'Lebhaftigkeit'?

Yours
Luath

OOC: basically what if Germany invented Anime?

OOC: I think we need some examples of German animation, or even random images from DeviantArt like they could be stylized German cartoons. I've seen French, I've seen Italian, haven't seen Germany animation before.

OOC: the basic idea is that it's the same style as Anime, but will German themes and a more European flavour, I really haven't been more creative than that, but if you have any ideas this is open ended.

If lebhaftigkeit was out of the picture these geraboos wouldn't exist or would have to find images of different things to spam internet boards with...

OOC: Couldn't help it...

OOC: Ehh. It's really hard to extrapolate Japan's animation industry onto Germany, or any country, for that matter. Japanese attitudes over animation as a medium equal to live action dramas (rather than a medium for children or racy sitcoms) came as a result of Japanese cultural developments after WWII, such as the transition from kamishibai (storytellers with illustration frames) to comics, and then to animated adaptations of such comics. I have no idea how the cultural scene in Germany was back then, but for something similar to develop, it has to follow similar developments.

I have seen weird things, but never that weird as in Lebhaftigkeit. Weird, scary, sexy - and most of the time, all three. I guess americans shouldn't nuke this country twice. I don't know what would be internet full of, if there would be one. Perhaps western animation would pickup the bill. Or something exotic like China or India - remember that both drawing and animation are very time consuming processes and require essentially cheap labour force. For one perhaps Hindu animation wouldn't be associated with extravagant porn, but then again, Kamasutra.
