DBWI: 50 Years Since the Collapse of the Third Reich

Well, today is the day! 50 years since Hitler's regime collapsed. What progress have we made? What progress have we yet to make? Discuss.

well, for one, the United States is the undisputed sole Superpower (has been for the past 50 years) and spans the entire North American continent.

We now have a Slavic US president, Vladimir Putin (whose parents fled to America) and an Hispanic VP, Alberto Gonzales.

The Civil rights movement was satisfied in 1962 with the abolition of Jim Crow. Martin Luther King eventually became governor of Georgia

America and China have both got men on the moon (1967, 1979) and mars (1979, 1993)

South America is one of the most stable regions in the world

we got off oil by 1967 after listening to Marion King back in 1953

Among other things.

I respect these achievements, but I was thinking more in terms of the achievements of Europe since the fall of fascism. Rebuilding Paris, for example.

Europe seems to have recovered well from the yoke of Hitler. The Jews now openly walk the streets of Europe free from Neo Nazi persecution.

Africa was devastated by the Genocide that Hitler attempted to bring about on the sub-saharan population. over 2 thirds of the African population perished in one of the worst genocides in history. Thankfully, we have survivors testimony which can put the deniers to shame.

Next segment: Asia

Of course, there's the problem of the deniers wanting to finish Hitler's work in Union of south Africa.

Well, the Georgians and the Kurds as well as the Jews were completely wiped out in Western Asia. The Turks and Arabs were at each other's throats until Hitler decided to wipe the Arabs out. At least 50% of the arabic population perished. The rest made it into Pakistan/Afghanistan and the Turkestan republic.

Latin America is now one nation: the South American Union which has experienced unprecedented growth and thank goodness for the CIA overthrowing Peron who would have been a Nazi Ally.

South East Asia seems to be one of the richest regions in the world

Australasia seems to be doing well.

With all due respect, I still find this "Second Holocaust" theory absolutely objectionable. David Irving has done a marvellous job, i feel, with his research into the alleged deprivation of food, the use of mobile gas chambers, etc, none of which, I hasten to remind you all, have been found after 50 years of searching in the sub-saharan wilderness for them.

Besides, as anyone can see, the withdrawal of the Third Reich from Africa, and the abject failure of the Restored British Empire and the French Republics to reoccupy their colonies has left Africa in its natural state- a squalid pit of misery and death. is it any wonder that so many millions died in the early 50s? They were not victims of genocide, but victims of the liberal delusion that they were ever capable of sustaining themselves.

But I digress. Achievements? The recent electoral success of the Justicialist Party suggests things might be looking up again for the South American Union, after years of capitalist repression. Peron might be dead, but his grandchildren continue the legacy. I still have photos of Eva's funeral in 1977. That was a milestone worth marking.

Rodina, also, has taken the lessons of the 3rd Reich to heart, and Im pleased at the work this Government has achieved over the last 8 years in thoroughly modernizing and reconstructing Western Russia.

OOC DISCLAIMER: Needless to say, Im roleplaying here, just in case anyone thinks im being genuinely racist/fascist.

Why are you people celebrating the fall of the Reich? The fact that the German people watched as Commies took over the fatherland and let them run it into the ground is disgusting.

Hitler led the greatest economic power of his time. He managed to solve the Jewish question without endangering the German economy or livelihood. He helped stamp out the Mohammadeans and their abominations from the reach of the civilized world.

If only he'd been harsher on the Slavs, Germany wouldn't be the cesspool it is now.

All five of them? Hitler eradicated them, and rightly so. Imagine if the Slavs and Jews had combined in the Bolshevist uprising. I doubt one could even get bread in Germany, let alone a job.

By expelling the Jews from the Reich Hitler set a powerful example to the world that Judeo-Bolshevik aggression would not be tolerated. Look how badly the USSR failed when we deported our Jews there. If only we'd had the sense to off the commies...

OOC: I'm playing someone who doesn't believe the Communist German allegations of the Holocaust. In my opinion, the Jews and Gypsies were deported to the USSR.

One thing is for certain, if the Third Reich hadn't fallen, we certainly wouldn't have all of those cyberpunk stories (e.g. John Shirley, William Gibson, et al.) from the 1980s and 1990s wherein the world is caught in midst of economic control of oligarchs from Russia, Indonesia, and India. While it sounds cool for the occasional Everway RPG game, it gets terribly repetitive after a while.

As for the effects, with the Philippines and India in control of the IT sector, electronics has really taken off. The "zaibatsu"-based economy under MITI served to choke technological and economic development in Japan. Even now, the generation that was born from 1959 until 1984 is called the "Lost Generation". Meanwhile, Subic Bay and Mumbai turn out most of the world's microchips with relative ease and comfort...

Im till amazed that the Reich fell at all really.

I mean , after they took Moscow and Stalin commited suicide at the end of '41 , they looked invicible. For the next 7 years , they ruled over the Ukraine and modern Rodina as effective slave states , with increasing levels of barbarity as they eliminated first the commies , then the jews , and then the slavs themselves. Even after the British and their Imperial allies had forced the Germans out of Africa in '52 , they seemed invincible. But it wasnt to be was it. But what won it for them , was it the Soviet remnant dropping th Bomb on Kiev? Was it the entry of America into the European war at the End of '54 , or was it the use of nerve gas?

It is good to celebrate it hitler did many good things i wonder what would have happened if he wouldint have took moscow....

I'd say if Hitler had not been that paranoid his last years his Reich may have survived him. If Göring or Göbbels had still been alive there may have been a successor ready to continue in his footsteps.

History of the World Post 1959

well, let's look at the United States in Greater Detail, since i only skimmed on it.

Well, while Russia gave the blood in their noble struggle to end the horrific regime of the Third Reich, the United States of America gave the killer blow to the monstrosities of Hitler. Without them and Colonel John Wayne (later senator) dropping the bomb on the Third Reich, the war would have been long and bloody.

In an act of Unity after the Nazi claims on Greenland in 1954, every nation in North America requested annexation by the United States given that they were the only power in the world that could stand up to the Nazi Menace. This boost in resources and Manpower gave the states what they needed to counter the monstrosity of the Third Reich head on. President George Marshall rightly called it "a clear and present danger". The greatest help in the struggle was the F-14 fighter that could clearly confront Goring's finest Luftwaffe plane and by 1959, the war was over and without US help, it would have been possibly a Nazi victory

After the war, President Marshall was worried about the inequal distribution of electoral votes in the Union, so he got the state reoganisation act passed which fixed the amount of States to 50. John F Kennedy soon came into power, representing a new age of peace and prosperity. one sign of this was the space exploration act so "America, and the World, could see the reams of Space within my lifetime". He remained in power for 12 years, overseeing America landing on the moon and the end to the use of oil. The Next president was Ronald Reagan, who tragically resigned due to Alzheimer's in 1989. He oversaw greater development and better relations with the other powers specifically China and India.

The Previous president, Bill Clinton was neither the best or the worst. But in light of his various philandering he lost the 2000 election to Vladimir Putin ,the son of Russian immigrants, who is the Incumbent.

All in all, i still think that America's finest days are ahead of it

Next part: China.

ooc: forgive the Ameriwank, but still, a Nazi overthrow by 1959 as to be one

Part 2: China

It suffered horribly at the hands of the Japanese who were throwing babies on Bayonets, using people for horrific biological experiments (i think the US nuking of the biowarfare plants was a merciful release for the people inside them).

Mao Zedong's terrorists waged a brutal war even with this going on. Thanfully they lost all support and eventually faded into obscurity and dying out by 1961. Today politically, China is very stable

After the Pacific war in 1951, the USA gave china aid in industrial and monetary terms and brought them on their feet. By 1960, China had 50% of the GDP of the United States and by 1967 had a man on the moon. Recently, i heard China is considering to send a probe to Europa.

Next stop: the rest of Eastern and South East Asia.

India, as previously stated, is one of the hubs of the IT sector and is beginning a space programme in the near future. It managed to Hold Pakistan and Myanmar together

Thailand has been hit with War rerparations for their collaboration with the Axis, although it is recovering.

Indochina hosts one of the major robotics centres with Doctor Ho Chi Minh famously working with Asimov on the ideas of artificial intelligence and the concept of the Three Laws

Indonesia has been held back by years of protracted civil war between Suharto and the south Moluccans and the East Timorese and the Indonesian government.

Singapore is a shining example of technology in South East Asia as well as Malaya

The Philippines like India is an IT hub, with Manilla computers rivalling Apple and Dell on the stock market.

Korea's export industry is currently going into recession but it is projected to leave it by 2011.

Japan is still stricken by both reparations and the nuclear strikes from the war.

Part 4: Africa
Part 5: Latin America
Part 6: Russia
Part 7: Europe
Part 8: Australia

One sad chapter of our history that has to be considered is the "Brown Scare" of the 1940s until the 1960s. Who can forget the frightening words of Senator Henry A. Wallace (D) screaming, "My life before my liberty!". Or worse yet, who can forget the words of HUAC hearings of Eugene McCarthy, with the infamous line, "Have you or anyone you know ever been a member of the American Nazi Party?" It is frightening to consider that it took until 1972 for the HUAC hearings to end....

Tis true, even in the Sole Superpower era, the Brown scare lasted so long. So many innocent people were smeared with the accusation of being a Nazi. But still, they rightly caught out KKK chapters and various Neo Nazi cells in the United States. At least, Black people were equal to white people earlier, fulfilling MLK's dream that all men are created equal.

But still, even with Pax Americana the risk of a Nazi resurgence was too great. With both Communism and Fascism obliterated, the world can expect great times ahead of it.

How would you assess the Legacy of JFK?

And any more information on Ronald Reagan, Bill Clinton or Vladimir Putin?
