DBAHC/WI:No Byzantine empire?

Using it’s unique location, the city of Byzantium was able to unite the Greek city states before building an empire . How could this have been stopped? What would be the consequences of no Byzantine Empire?

Another city would have taken the historical place of Byzantium (maybe Sparta or Tebas). The events that made Byzantium an empire were inevitable and could have happened in other place.

Instead of setting up the capital in Byzantion/Constantinople. The romans set up their new capital close to Alexandria/somewhere else in the Levant region.

Who are these Romans?

OCC:The Greeks of the original Byzantium created this empire, not the Romans.

I think that he's talking of that famous and important Byzantine family from which those who today we call "the good emperors" came out.

OOC: I kinda fixed it.

Well this automatically butterflies away the Olympian and Atlantean Empires across the ocean on the New World, considering it was a purely Byzantine affair. We would probably never see former Byzantine colonial cities such as Constantinople (New York), Alexandria-on-the-Rainforest (Rio de Janeiro), or Elysium (Manila) establish their own separate empires during the double whammy that was the Second Byzantine Civil War occuring simultaneously with the Euxine War against the Geum Dynasty
