In Aug. 1964, LBJ asked the FBI to send a team to Atlantic City. They had three objectives. 1) Surveillance and bugging of MLK's hotel room re MFDP. 2) MFDP surveillance 3) Bobby-watch. LBJ thought 3) and 2) were related, or that RFK was stirring the pot to try and grab the VP nomination. This wasn't revealed until Church in '75, and Deke DeLoach testified that 3) was an objective. WI this had somehow been exposed? Effect on the convention? Effect on LBJ and RFK respectively?

The communist parties knew they where bugged early. Remember, they even had agents in some of the agencies which put them there. Still, the scandals didn't break until the 70's.

I don't think the journalists where ready to break that kind of stories before the 70's.
