Burundi explodes in genocide like Rwanda

Like Rwanda, even smaller Burundi ever since independence in 1959 has been plagued by interethnic strife between Tutsi and Hutu, only in reverse from 1994 Rwanda with a Tutsi-controlled elite, govt and military vs a majority dissatisfied Hutu pop. Now, WI Burundi also exploded in genocidal violence, perhaps at the same time as Rwanda did back in 1994 ? What about at some point post-1994- how would the int'l community in Rwanda's aftermath have reacted ?

Probably the same way as in Rwanda: ineffectually if at all. What would be interesting, though, would be the effects in what was then Zaire. IIRC, the civil war in that country was at least in part started by Rwandan refugees fleeing across the border, followed by other Rwandans trying to kill them. Would the collapse of Burundi have started the mess in Zaire sooner?
