Bobby Kennedy Lives!!!! What about Teddy?

Hubert Humphrey was born and raised in South Dakota. He only moved to Minnesota for university. The point is that Kennedy, a New Englander, won South Dakota 2-1 against two Midwesterners who'd forgotten more about agricultural issues than RFK ever knew. Why he connected with rural (among many other) voters is a long story, best read in either Jules Witcover's (a member of both RFK's and Nixon's press corps in '68) 85 Days or Thurston Clarke's The Last Campaign. I highly recommend both. A similar home-state principle applies to Kennedy: though called a "carpetbagger" in '64, unlike his successor Hillary RFK was a NY native. He lived in the Bronxville suburbs till the age of 12, though the accent suggested otherwise.
