Biggest French Indochina Possible

Which sorts of events could have the French rule over Indochina annex lands way beyond OTL territory, like Southern Chinese states, Burma, The Indonesian Archipelago or even the Ryukyu Islands?

Siam/Thailand seems like the next obvious land for the French to annex, assuming that the British don't try to take it first.

Also all Chinese lands south of pearl River.
Might be pushing it. Even Tonkin was historically resisted against by the French Parliament.
You can have bits and pieces dealt with locally, like Laos but a campaign in China is a different animal. Every soldier in China us a soldier not standing guard over the blue line of the Vosges, preparing for the inevitable round 2 against Germany

Yes it would if required a different POD where China was partitioned between the various Europeans with Britain seizing all land between pearl River and Yanzee tiver for instance. But not on its own.

Maybe the Isan region of thailand and the small coastal strip with ethnic khemer to get both greater laos and greater cambodia.

What would happen to the additional areas of greater Indochina when the French leave?

The Chinese and ethnically Thai parts would probably go back to their original owners, no?

Yunnan might be a little too big for France to rule effectively.
You'd probably get a protectorate with the existing governor still in place but seceding from Beijing. I think the governor was a big stakeholder in the Yunnan railway. He authorized it and pretty sure he provided labour too.
There was also a very limited French presence in Laos, although I can't find a number of colonials. The very few were only civil servants, no civilians

Ethnically Thai to a degree if they get their own government but Thailand has recovered the bits taken and added to Cambodia and Laos.
Chinese land would probably go back to China as it would be a concession, not an annexation. Nobody actually, legally annexed Chinese territory (AFAIK). It's like the Ottoman Empire, better to leave the existing administration in place and enjoy the spoils

Russia did, if Outer Manchuria (and other bits) counts as Chinese. And of course, Japan did as well (Taiwan), though that was after a signifcant military victory, and not on the mainland.

North : the Liangguang (Guangdong, Guangxi), Hainan, and Yunnan are as far as it can get.
East : Thailand.
West : Maybe purchase the Phillies from Spain ?
South : ... No idea.

Yeah but Russia and Japan can claim cultural links and it's right next to their mainland. Manchuria and Mongolia are also less "core", right?

Neither were as heavily populated (and historically long a part of China) as Guangxi or Yunnan.
