Benedict XVI does not abdicate

Why would Benedict/Ratzinger be arrested? What did he do?
Basically, it's been alleged that he participated in and facilitated the cover up of sexual abuse by priests. It's also been alleged that the reason he actually resigned is because he was about to be charged as an accomplice in the cover up of child sexual abuse. Though that's never been proven.

IIRC something over pedophile scandal.

Benedict touched children? Or he just helped others cover it up?

First time I ever heard that about Pope Benedict XVI. I knew he had problems with pedophilia in the Church, but to the point of being arrested? Is that true or is it rumor/speculation?

You know better than to put forward Conspiracy theories.

There is a slightly better even chance that Benedict would coax the SSPX back into the Church with some convoluted arrangement (though a significant fraction of SSPX priests would bolt) There would also be some very incremental "reform of the reform" of the liturgy.

How would the Church have evolved if Benedict didn't abdicate in 2013? Abdication is almost unheard of for a pope. Note that he is still alive.

Considering that many conservative and traditionalist Catholics have started to outright call for Francis's resignation over heresy and corruption and Benedict XVI to come back and become pope again, and that Benedict XVI has co-authored a book with Cardinal Robert Sarah tearing into Francis's papacy, this really belongs in chat.

There is a debate as to whether Benedict XVI really co-wrote this book but yes for the moment it is very topical.
