Another Pre-Nuclear post apocalypse (Things to Come)

This particular one is a scenario put forward in the 1936 H. G. Wells movie "Things to Come" where at one point in this timeline he proposed, The World or at least Europe is plunged into a decades long Second World War that lasted from 1936 to 1966.. Only ending when civilization totally collapses and is thrown back to the middle ages.


would it at all been possible for this sort of outcome to happen in our actual timeline? A version of a pre-nuclear WW2 bringing about the collapse of Civilization as shown in the movie.

So much i love that Movie and Wells novel, This quite tricky to establish as TL,

Archienelson, i propose you take the novel as template for this TL.
so far i know "The shape of Things to Come" Free on internet.

For Decade long wars, look into history of The Thirty Years' War from 1618 to 1648.
yes, its 17th century war, but one of most destructive wars in history, who wipe out entire Populations in areas of Germany.
so severe it took Germany 60 years to recover
