An Asian Super Stan?

Having recently looked at a map I couldn't help but notice the countries names which end in -stan in asia are all geographically next to each other and covers a very large area.

Would it be possible for these countries to come together after the fall of the USSR to form a larger country?

If so how powerful would the nation be? Economic superpower or not so great?

What if these countries instead GUS form an alternate confederation and over time something like a Central Asian Union ? Maybe a Turanic Union state based on Turkic heritage and Islam and supported by Turkey ? An Islamic Super Stan right between Russia and China. Political Islam could be one factor. On the other hand there are still Millions of ethnic Russians in the Stans that don´t integrate into such a concept so Russian Federation might not like such ambitions and Eastern Turkestan might be an issue.

Because their individual differences are not insignificant

Stans Also have a lot of geographical barriers in between the states which will make one large functioning govt very challenging

Not so great. They are not that populated. Kazakh and Uzbek 20 mil each. So about 50-60 mil total. They totally landlocked, had few industries, export either raw materials or farm product. Environmentally they had problem with water for cotton farm, and Soviet waste. Politically, they had no tradition of good government, ethnic problem, islamic fanaticism, and large Russian minority. Russia would be troubling neighbour, Afghanistan and Iran not much better.

I wanted to start of a timeline in which in the 1980s Saudi Arabia Pakistan and other countries encourage a huge Muslim revivalist movement like radio free Europe in the stans

What if in the 1920es Enver Pasha succeeds with his plans to unite all Turkic Peoples of Central Asia including the Uygurs in one Turanic nation ?

The Soviet Union will never let such a state existed for a very long time.
So maybe there is a ATL scenario where the Russian Civil War is more even matched and being prolonged well into the late 1920es. Maybe this could be a scenario where a unification of Turkic peoples is somewhat more substainable ?

Other option is that Soviets instead of creating several republic created one Turkic SSR with Tajik autonomy inside of it. However it will drastically change all Soviet history especially after WW2, when this Respublic will had bigger share of Soviet population and economy, unlike OTL where Central Asians till 70 were underrepresented in Politbiro in comparison to Ukrainians and Caucasian, with one united Republic they will had huge role in all leadership change after Stalin death. So USSR even may survive with change in leadership. Even in case of fall of USSR it may result in more equal relationship between Russia and other post Soviet countries.

Why not ?

But I don't think any state replacing the Russian Empire, (Soviet Union, White Russia, Republican Russia...) will let the Central Asia being independant for a long time. It will be the first region where the post-Imperial Russian State will try to expand following the reunification of Russia with Bielorussia or Ukraine, and the conquest of the Caucasus.

"Stan" is just Sanskrit for "land", uniting all of these countries makes as much sense as uniting Finland and the Netherlands because they end with "land"
