JACOBY KILLS HYALE?

I know it was most likely foul play, but come on.

I found out where Mike lives, and he promised me that these aren't strictly canon.

It's one possible future and it works for this possible future of infoboxes. Hyale and Jacoby's exact fate is still up in the air and I've meen messing with a lot of different possible futures for them.

I fumbled with the quarters, my hands shaking. I managed to slip them into payphone. I punched in the phone number. It was still early evening in Shangri-La. She should be awake. She picked up. I heard Calla's voice.
"Hello?"
"Calla, it's me."
"Mr. Hoyt? I thought you were--"
"Yeah, I know. I am. Listen Calla, I..." my voice trailed off and I swallowed. I took a deep breath and closed my eyes. "You know I love you, right?"
"Mr. Hoyt, what's wrong?" Calla asked.
"Nothing's wrong, Calla. I just...I just love you so very much." I closed my eyes and leaned against the phone. "I'll always love you and I'll always be proud of you."
"I know, Jacoby," Calla said. "I love you too."
"I'm sorry," I said. "I'll have to break my promise to you."
Calla didn't say anything. Was she crying or fighting back the tears? Or maybe she'd been expecting this.
"I promised you that the three of us could--that the three of us could--"
"Don't worry, Jacoby," Calla said. "I understand. Promise me that when we meet again, we'll have that dinner you always promised."
"I promise," I said. "I love you, Calla."
"I love you. Daddy."
I smiled and hung up the phone I stepped out of the phone booth and looked up at the Saturnian night. There was a cold chill in the air. My breath fogged in front of my face. I looked back down at the massive crowd gathered in the square. Humans, orcs, centaurs...all united.
A centuar stepped onto the platform at the far end. Despite the distance, I could that it was Hyale. I could hear a sound that might have been her voice. I was still too far away to make it out. I reached into my bocket, and gripped the detonator.
"Here's looking at you, kid," I said as I pressed the button.
A bright flash blinded me momentarily as the fertilizers bomb tore a massive hole through Parlassus. For a brief moment, I remembered the first time I saw Hyale. How I bumped into her in a crowded saloon and spilled beer all over. How she angrily demanded that I pay for her ruined jacket, and how I promised I'd pay her back, but how I could only offer her an IOU. "I never did pay you back, did I? I'm awful at keeping promises."

First time experimenting with the Crop feature on Photoshop rather than sticking the two images together while posting, so I apologize for the big load in advance.

(And yes the flag is terrible, it came out better in my head, it was just hard to get it into a circle)

POD is unknown.

Just before I post the next election tomorrow, I thought I'd let you guys see the Tory race to replace Bracken. Now since this was a bit of an impulse creation, I don't have a write-up for it, and I'm not sure I will do a write-up for any future leadership elections. Too much work, and the election synopsis is enough for me.

That picture of Diefenbaker is just the most perfect thing ever.

Bracken over Socialism

Due in part to his majority win in the previous election, the passage of legislation, most notably a pilot program of a national healthcare system, was accomplished without much difficulty. The Prime Minister was personally popular and his opponents were still divided over who would lead their respective parties. As he headed into the election campaign polling suggested the Liberals could win as many as 200 seats.

Since their defeat four years prior and the resignation of former Prime Minister Bracken, the Tories entered a bitter leadership race which pitted the western, more populist side of the party against the eastern establishment. The West was represented by John Diefenbaker while former Ontario Premier George A. Drew became the candidate for the East. While close, Tory members eventually chose Diefenbaker, whose nationalistic rhetoric offered the Conservatives a chance to reclaim the keys to 24 Sussex, the newly minted residence of the Prime Minister. The CCF meanwhile decided that in order to keep their already dwindling support they needed to pick a leader from the province where it all began; Saskatchewan. In the end the party picked veteran MP Hazen Argue as their new leader in the hopes he could take on the newly minted Tory leader at his own game.

Unfortunately for the CCF no such breakthrough took place. Much like pollsters predicted, the Liberals were returned with yet another majority, albeit not as large as expected, a further weakened Tory opposition, with the CCF in third place.

]the 1952 United States Presidential Election saw incumbent President Harold Stassen take on the Democratic ticket of New York Governor W. Averell Harriman and Tennessee Senator Estes Kefauver. Stassen had ascended to the President the year prior after the assassination of President Douglas MacArthur on June 26th, 1951 in Green Bay, Washington. the incumbent was immensely popular. Orchestrator of the Speaking of the West. Specifically the United States in this case. Underwent a collective national mood swing as a result of the United States unexpected upset victory in the FIFA World Cup over host country and favorite Spain. The victory was a crowning moment of glory that Americans could just celebrate; something they could just cherish and take in. Allowing them to forget about the trials and tribulations of the disconcerting national and even more troubled international politics. Even if it was just for a day. Of course; this feeling would not last for long. Soon the focus was back on politics, specifically the upcoming 1956 Presidential Election. Incumbent President Harold Stassen and Vice President Lodge would unsurprisingly be easily nominated for a second full term with only minimal opposition from within the Republican Party. The Democrats in turn nominated Tennessee Senator (and the 1952 Vice Presidential nominee) Estes Kefauver; who subsequently chose Virginian Senator Clarence Potter as his running mate. When compared to the relative landslide that was the previous election four years prior; the 1956 election would end up being a more highly contested battle for the President. This was in large part due to the Recession of 1955 that had stunted the relative economic boom of the post war years; seeing a general rise in the unemployment rate to 11.0% by November of 1956. The President was also partly hurt as a result of rumors (which may or may not have been spread by Kefauver and the Democrats) that circulated in the months prior to the election that he was having a affair with his Personal Secretary. These hits however would in the end not deter Stassen/Lodge from easily defeating Kefauver/Potter come November; and thus a second full term in the White House.

Interesting. Could you tell me why Idaho, Wyoming and Nevada went Democrat?

I imagine that those three states were some of the closer ones. But the rumors of Stassen having a affair with his Secretary dipped his popularity in several states in South and West. Giving Kefauver and Potter enough leeway to take a few states they otherwise wouldn't have by just a few percentage points.

Virginia and Tennessee were the biggest blowouts. Being Kefauver and Potter's home states respectively.

You do know Potter never existed, right?

Even if Potter did exist, there's no way that the Democrats would nominate two Southerners from bordering states in 1952. It was surprising when they did so 40 years later.

Well I didn't want to use Adlai Stevenson. and the Democrats weren't going to win the election anyway. but I suppose I could change this version of Potter to a westerner or something..
