Dewey wins in 1948, but Adlai Stevenson still wins his Gubernatorial upset. Come 1952, Dewey is saddled with Korea, he's increasingly unpopular. But at the same time the Democrats can't settle on a candidate. The party leaders aren't going to allow a Kefauver is not going to be the nominee. Adlai emerges as the consensus candidate at the convention ala otl. Stevenson defeats the unpopular Dewey in the general election. I know, it's convergent to a fault. But having Stevenson beat Taft is hard, having him beat Ike is essentially impossible. With Dewey in the White House, Stevenson isn't saddled with the fatal combination of incumbent fatigue and a running as the standard bearer of the party that is also represented by a highly unpopular incumbent President.
