2022 AHFA World Cup: OP and rules
Hereby, I invite you to AHFA World Cup 2022!

I hope for a tournament that is better than the one to be held in Qatar, in every aspect. Maybe even including the human rights record of AHFA and the hosts, but we don't know that yet.

Here is the OP by @Baconheimer for AHFA World Cup 2020:

So, I admit this has no OTL analogue, but with everyone stuck in their homes, why don't we try this! This is a game in the spirit of the 2012 AH Euro Football Championship and AH World Cup.

Basically, we will create a bunch of fictional nations and teams and then simulate soccer matches between these teams. We will aim for 32 teams.

If you are interested, you can submit a team in this thread using the template form included below.

After that, we will figure out the host nation for the tournament and then simulate the matches (I actually have no idea how to do this, so if anyone does, please let me know)

And here the necessary information and teamsheet for a squad.

A few rules we have thought about:

  • The World Cup will be contested by 40 teams, in 8 groups of five teams each.
  • No OTL players are allowed to be used, neither are OTL clubs.
    • This does not apply to fictitious players used in previous AHFA tournaments though.
  • A roster must consist of at least 23 and at most 29 players.
  • OTL teams (e.g. just taking "France" with no differences from OTL other than the roster) are discouraged. However, mind that it is quite likely for a France with a POD after the French Revolution to have a rooster as national symbol, among others.

Peter II of Aragon win the Battle of Muret and get to consolidate the hold of the Aragoneses over the Languedoc, marrying his son Jaime with the only daughter of the last count of Toulouse (her OTL counterparts married Alphonse of Poitiers as part of the process that lead to the annexation of Toulouse to France) and proving shrewd enough to leave the Occitans to their own devices as long as they fulfilled their basic obligations as vassals. Through a fairly eventfull history the realm retained its independence and reached modern days with territories roughly equivalent to the OTL Kingdom of Aragon and to medieval Languedoc, with much of its modern days politics revolving around its cultural duality (as reflected by the name change that incorporated Toulouse in it). Having become a constitutional monarchy long ago the Kingdom of Aragon and Toulouse has grown into a stable and wealthy politie and very much a card carrying first world country.

Its history and cultural diversity are reflected in its lineups as Arabic names and surnames denotes North African immigrants or their descendants while Bosnia and Bulgarian surnames serve as reminders of the migration of the Dualist christians of both areas when, with the promising beginnings of religious toleration in the realm during the Renaissance, they elected to join their Cathars brethens, whom the butterflies had allowed to survive the worst of their medieval persecutions, altough just barely at times, as while far from ideal at the time their treatment on the shores of the western parts of Old Mare Nostrum promised to be far better then what they could expect back home.

In the Football world the performances of the Troubadours have earned an healthy dose of respect from many of their opponents, altough a big international trophy has yet eluded them.

History: The history of the Hoennese Realm predates human settlement, beginning with the earliest tribes of gardevoirs and other psychic maju on Hoenn Island thousands of years ago. Its modern history begins in the 13th century with a successful repulsion of both Mongol and Japanese invaders under a fierce hurricane. It was an absolute monarchy and psiocracy until 1902, when a human revolt forces the gardevoir empress to accept democracy; Hoenn is now a parliamentary democracy and strong constitutional monarchy.

As the OTL 2022 FIFA World Cup is approaching... is anyone else interested in an AHFA tournament for this year? Or should we try again next summer? Or maybe make an AHFA Womens' World Cup instead?
