Since the POD changed, here's my new team. Having that kind of Missouri ITTL is too implausible for my tastes ;) EDIT: The rules have changed again, but now I won't abandon Majeerteenia! Go Majeerteenia!

Kingdom of Majeerteenia (MJT)

majeerteenian_football_team_by_federalrepublic-d7c81hp.png

Territories: most of Somalia, not including Mogadishu and most of Somaliland (map will follow later)
Capital: Ras Hafun
Official Languages: Somali, Arabic, English
Government: Unitary constitutional parliamentary monarchy
History: Majeerteenia is a powerful Somali kingdom at the Horn of Africa, established in the 18th century. After a long civil war in the mid-19th century the ruling dynasty of Osman (not to be confused with the Turkish dynasty of the same name) managed to manifest their control over most of the Somali lands and modernized thanks to British investment and trade. The current sultan, Osman Yusuf, who's long reign started in 1964, was very keen on making his kingdom visible on the world stage, thus leading him to support prestige projects such as the Majeerteenian Football Federation and the modern reconstruction of the capital of Ras Hafun, which was strongly affected by an earthquake in the Indian Ocean in 2004. Since the 1970s Majeerteenia competed in international football events, with the 1978 World Cup being their first. Something noteworthy about Majeerteenia is their tendency to use mostly Somali players, with only the occasional foreign player (mostly English ones) joining their roster. For this tournament, they've compiled their best national players, hoping to finally bring the cup home to a real African country.

Name of the football federation: Xiriirka Cagta Majeerteen //كرة القدمماجرتينالاتحاد // Majerteenian Football Federation (emblem is above, the year stands for the first world cup they competed in: 1978)
National Stadium: Ras Hafun Royal Stadium (currently not in use due to renovations) // Barbacadle City Stadium (temporary)
Nickname of the National Team: The Leopards (often considered to be ironic given their typically defensive formation)
Team Manager: Osman Farah (nephew of King Osman Yusuf)
Head Coach: Hussein Ali Egal
Team Kit: s. attachment
Player Formation: 1-5-4-1 (from FW to GK)

Roster: (bold denotes start line-up)
- Abdi Farah (GK - 4)
- Mohamed Ibrahim (GK - 9)
- Abdillahi Jama (GK - 12)
- Omar Hersi (DF - 1 - Captain)

Tsardom of Bulgaria (BUL)

Territories: see map below.

Country: Tsardom of Bulgaria
Name of Football federation: Национа̀лен отбо̀р по фу̀тбол на Бъ̀лгария (NOFB)
Timeline: The Red Baron's Mitteleuropa
History: (if you didn't read the TL, read at your own risk because this will contain spoilers) Modern day Bulgaria was shaped by the events that unraveled in the Balkans during the Second Great War. Its acquisition of Macedonia, northern Greece and most importantly, Tsarigrad, was the result of its success in its wars against Yugoslavia, Greece and Turkey. Two of those nations that were allied with a German Reich led by Manfred von Richthofen, while Turkey was allied with the United States. The international community did not officially recognize Bulgarian territorial claims on the designated international zone of Anatolia that emerged after the Second Great War, although Bulgarian nationalists insist that their Tsardom be allowed to annex the disputed international zone as compensation for the 1913 Massacre of the Thracian Bulgarians. To this day, Tsarigrad and Bulgarian Bithynia remains a sore point in Bulgarian-Turkish relations while its annexation of parts of Pirin Macedonia and control of Solun has also angered Greece greatly.

Country: Bramble Republic (BRR)
Territory: Montserrat and the British Virgin Islands
Flag:
bflag.jpg
Football federation: Brambleite Football League (BFL), composed of two clubs, the national team and a club made up entirely of babies. The purpose of the BFL is to get the national team to set scoring records.
History: In January of 1960, William Bramble became Chief Minister of Montserrat. His first year was rather uneventful, but in February 1961, he unexpected declared Montserrat "the Bramble Republic", of which he was President for Life. Little is understood about Bramble's motives for doing this, but many suspec dissatisfaction with British rule, mental illness, boredom, or some combination of the three. The former British Virgin Islands were incorporated into the Bramble Republic in 1977. Bramble's most controversial move, however, came in 1990, when he officially changed the surnames of all Bramble Republic citizens to Bramble to match his own. Bramble put large amounts of money into two things: the football program and the nuclear program. The former turned out much better than the latter. During the Soufriere Hills volcano eruption in 1995, Brambleite scientists scrambled to get a nuclear bomb built for the purposes of stopping the eruption. The bomb was dropped into the volcano on October 8, 1996 (Bramble's 95th birthday) but did not detonate. All Brambleite citizens living on Montserrat were evacuated shortly thereafter. According to the Bramble Republic, William Bramble is still alive and leading the country at age 112. According to just about everyone else, he died in 1988 and the current man using that name and running the country is somebody else entirely.

The Bramble Republic football team uses a 4-3-3 formation, and due to the common surname, the players are denoted by first name (i.e. Bradley (90') instead of B. Bramble (90'). The Bramble Republic's qualification for the World Cup came as quite a surprise, but controversy surrounds the team. Are they plucky underdogs eager to try and win it all, or a corrupt bunch with a knack for bribing referees? Only time will tell.

The Bramble republic roster: (Bold denotes the starting lineup)

Country: Zanzibar Sultanate
Territory: OTL Zanzibar Archipelago
Flag:

History: The multiethnic archipelago of Zanzibar has remained under the rule of Jamshid bin Abdullah since 1963, though political concessions mean that the monarchy is constitutional with most power in the elected Parliament. Maintaining close ties with both the Arab states (Zanzibar is a member of the Arab League) and its neighbors in East Africa, Zanzibar has one the highest HDI scores and the highest GDP per capita in Africa. Having held a lifelong interest in the sport, Jamshid commissioned the Zanzibar Football Federation, which due to good funding and training is among the strongest teams in Africa despite Zanzibar's small population.

Oregon's strong gender equality laws and co-ed sports teams created serious friction between it and the both the World Cup and the International Olympics Board, including boycotts of the 1996, 2000, 2004, 2008, and 2012 Olympics and every World Cup tournament since 1994. A settlement was reached in December 2012 that allows Oregon's athletes to field a co-ed team in male-only competitions. Oregon is also allowed to enter co-ed teams into female-only tournaments when a male-only competition is unavailable. Although many in Oregon are not completely happy with these arrangements, all agree that it is a good compromise in joining the international sporting community again.

You need 1 more person on the team

Well, I'll pop this one in here. Expect a nice map and flag at some point, but for now here's a team list. I've included the short name form in Italics seeing as with all the patronymics and so forth the names can get quite long.
