AHC/WI Dewey Defeats Roosevelt 1944

What are the impacts on US and global history if Roosevelt looses his reelection bid in 1944? Does Dewey drop the bomb? How do US-Soviet relations fare under a Republican president as the war wraps up? Can it really get worse than Truman? How much worse?

I don't know if it was possible for Roosevelt to lose in 44 if the war continues as it did IOTL. Maybe Dewey could squeak out a victory if Roosevelt dies before election day and Truman/ Wallace takes his spot on the ticket.

It's not impossible to imagine a Dewey victory. Maybe some combination of Wallace staying on the ticket, the Dixiecrats bolting, and FDR having some major health collapse:

Dewey would not be too different than Roosevelt. He'd drop the Bomb (as virtually any plausible President in 1945 would) and support aid to Europe, just as he did in OTL. Maybe he'll be seen in a weak position in 1948 but a resurgent economy will boost him back up over a Democratic candidate.

Ironically it would take the Allies doing much better in the war both in Europe and the Pacific with the end of the war in sight and the American people growing wary of all the restrictions and rationing and Dewey was promising to ease them which didn't go well at the time but with an earlier end to the war in sight things change.
