AHC/WI: Alternative for Austria-Hungary - no Ausgleich

Many people people blame the collapse of Austria-Hungary in it's own political structure which derives from the Ausgleich (A-H Compromise) of 1867, the union clearly had various issues and the Empire never really managed to reform after it, due to neither the Austrian nor Hungarian sides wanting to lose power and the other minorities fighting for autonomy in the meantime.

That said there is a point in time where if it was the interest of the Kaiser he could implement basically whatever he so desired, that being the period between 1850 and 1860 during which you still had Bach's Neo-Absolutism and Hungary was under military occupation, and arguably up to 1866 before the Austro-Prussian War finally forced the Ausgleich to happen.

So basically, how could the Austrian Empire have reformed during 1850-1866 in such a way that it would avoid needing to make the compromise with Hungary? and also be preferably more stable than the Austro-Hungarian Empire.

How would the politics and ethnic tensions play out with this changed Austria?

And could that alternative survive post 1900s - maybe even up to modern day?

A different 1848 resulting in Austro-Slavism being embraced as a countermeasure against Hungary?
