AH Euro 2012 Football Championship

Right here.

Okay I see now :) Thanks, I missed that. So yeah let's get all the squads in please! For now how do you think we should do seeding? Obviously 4 pools of 6, based on skill level. How should they be sorted? Obviously to begin we need the home team in pool 1, who will take that position?

IMO I think it's not out of the question for any one of these teams to host, however I think some would need to share the duties. For example I could see both of the muslim nations hosting it together, but not singularily.

As would the Nine Republics, with this rather nifty flag if I do say so myself.

OK, before people get exited about hosting please hear me out.

I would strongly recommend picking say 4-6 options then picking one randomly. For the Asian Cup we got far too bogged down in the host issue; making bidding posters, several polls, and in the end it went on for so long it was (in my opinion at least) a major reason for its failure.

I'm going to go out and pick a few possibilities, feel free to disagree. Consider this is a 24-team format, the country would need say 9 to 11 top-tier stadia to host the thing. That would need to be a reasonably large country, or two still pretty big ones. So for example I don't think Toulouse would be big enough.

My top few options:

1. Joint Celtic-Northumbrian bid: the British Isles seem to be in absolute chaos, but I would think they could manage. Consider Scotland/Wales/Ireland are bidding in OTL, but here they are without Western Scotland.
2. Joint German bid: I expressed interest in the before, especially as it could be seen as a unity type thing between once hostile countries. I don't know if they could manage on their own
3. Spanish bid: Other than loosing Catalonia Spain seems to be in good shape, a joint bid between them seems unlikely.
4. 9 Republics bid: they seem to me to be a pretty well developed state if they've managed to hold on to Greece for this long, could presumably say have the 9 capitals as the host cities.
5. Russian bid: Clearly Russia with the addition of the Baltics and Ukraine should have more than enough stadiums to put forward a bid.
6. Joint Danish-Swedish bid: I could see these countries who presumably get on reasonably manage a joint bid together.

Anyway, feel free to disagree. Also try to take logistics into account, someone earlier suggested a joint Slavic-Catalan bid, a joint Toulouse-Paris bid I would say is just as unlikely. And common sense, the hosts must be of the current countries so if Paris was going to bid it would have done so with whatever state it neighbours.

The North German Delegation Supports the Double German Host idea
To Quote myself
I, President Alexander Schütt, elected by the people of the Union of german socialist States, announce, that we would support the idea, that either the Cup
will be placed either in the Lands of our Comrades in Katalonien, to be hosted in our ideally suited Homeland
or to be a double hosted Cup, between us and our german brothers in the south,
to improve our bad relationship in the last years. Our arguments are incontrovertible, that we have ,
with our southern neighbors combined, about 116,2 million inhabitants, more then one of the greatest Stadiums in the world,
and an above average infrastucture. Also our hosting of the Worldcup in 1994 showed, that we have the ability to stage such an event of global significance

With honor to the President of the European Football Association ,

A.Schütt

OOC: The UGSS is not a warmongering communist state, and is not isolated like the GDR.

Sincerely Alexander schütt, President of the Union of German-socailist States

Just pointing out, IRL 8 of the ten stadiums earmarked for Euro 2016 are in territory covered by Toulouse or the commune of Paris (Stade de France, Parc de Princes, Lyon, St. Eteinne, Toulouse, Bordeaux, Nice, and Marseilles). With slightly different stadia (Montpellier instead of Nice), the same applies for FIFA World Cup 1998 (a 32 team tournament). In an alternate world, anything is possible, but I'd imagined the South of France having more stadia available... So, if the Paris commune were interested, I think the Duchy and the Commune could support a tournament...

I agree entirely, except that I think either of the German nations could host it on their own. Having the both of them together sort of seems like overkill to me. And I changed Sweden's colours :p Sorry

As a side note, does anyone else have some ideas for the other states that haven't qualified? I was thinking of some sort of Savoy-Corsica, perhaps a Tuscany and a Helvetica as well in the immediate region. Thoughts?

We'd love to host it with the CU, but it seems to me that there's strong movement towards a North/South Germany joint hosting.

The USRS is also a fairly strong country with a large number of stadiums to place a bid to host the cup, which the Slavo-Roman government has already done so.

I don't think it really matters where it is hosted. As long as it isn't in the smallest country there it really doesn't make too much of a difference.

You still ignore the fact that you would have two co-hosts that are several hundred miles apart, that don't even border and (looking at how balkanised Western Europe is) have most likely been involved in some conflict. All the previous co-hosts (Bel-Ne, Swi-Aus, SK-Jap for the World Cup) have always bordered each other, I just can't see a Paris-Toulouse bid working even if they do have the stadia. Toulouse-Catalonia on the other hand might work.

Agreed, I would think that would also be a possibility. My list wasn't exhaustive so don't take anything from that, it was just my suggestion.

Agreed. In fact perhaps it might make more sense to consider who wouldn't bid.

How about I pick randomly between the following:

  1. North Germany - South Germany joint
  2. Denmark-Norway - Svearland joint
  3. Celtic Union - Union of the Northern Counties joint
  4. Celtic Union - Wessex joint
  5. Spanish State
  6. Spanish State - Portugal joint
  7. Russian Federated States
  8. Union of Slavo-Roman States
  9. The 9 Republics
  10. Greater Trinacria
  11. Greater Netherlands
  12. Greater Netherlands - Frisia joint
  13. Toulouse
  14. Toulouse - PR Catalonia joint
  15. Bulgarian Federation
  16. Breton Republic - Wessex joint
So the ones that wouldn't be bidding are:

IR Seher Bosna & Sandzak
Paris Commune
UIR Albania
French Algeria

All pretty small countries, it seems reasonable.
