AH Challenge: Faroe Islands part of UK

With a POD after 1900, make the Faroe Islands part of the United Kingdom, either by making it a crown dependency or a county of Scotland.

You want a WW2 POD here- Britain occupied the Faroes from 1940 to 1945. The simplest is probably a limited Nazi victory resulting in the Germans keeping Denmark, and Britain keeping the Faroes.
Another possibility is Denmark joining the Axis, as a result of which- after an Allied victory- Britain keeps the Faroes, and the US keeps Greenland and Iceland- which may soon get independence.

Central Powers victory with vassalised Denmark also might do it.

That was pretty much the actual situation post WWI - at least if you ask Redbeard (and the P.Munch) policy of not offending Germany and lying dead made it factual.
Rather a 1917 German occupation of Denmark and Norway with a defeat in the end could see a British occupation and no return of the islands. A Danish lying dead or inviting in German occupation forces would be seen in a much different light than in 1940!
And then there'd be no 1920 return of North Schleswig. ;)

Yes indeed. From 1864 until 1945 Denmark in effect was a German vassal, and with the main task of keeping Germany's enemies away from the German north flank, either by own force (as in WWI) or by letting in German troops to let them do the job (as in WWII).

That of course offers a lot of plausible PoDs where Denmark get sucked further into the German camp and more feel the Anglo-Saxon wrath. That it didn't happen in OTL is owed in WWI to a sensible policy of well armed neutrality and skillfully handled govenment, and in WWII more by luck and a few heroes in the resistance and the diplomacy - like the ambassador in USA Henrik Kauffmann.

A straightforward PoD could be the British actually trying their Baltic scheme. That would mean Denmark joining the Central Powers, and almost no matter how the Baltic campaign goes, the British are likely to stay in control of the Atlantic - and eventually annex Faroe Islands.

In WWII a medium sized butterfly probably could give similar results, one of the variants being the Soviets "liberating" Denmark and establishing "The People's Democratic Republic of Denmark - PDRD".

A "funny" situation would arise if the Russians occupy Jutland (they were close), but the British and the Danish Brigade in Sweden hurry to land on Zealand (a main task of the Brigade was preventing a communist take over after German capitulation). Then west Denmark would be communist and east Denmark (incl. North Atlantic) capitalist.
