ACH: Country that covers everything east of the Andes

Is it possible for the colonization process to go in such a way that everything or most of South America east of the Andes Mountains is united as a single country?

If Portugal is much stronger than OTL I think it's entirely possible that they're able to negotiate a better treaty with Spain and get much more of South America.

Given the distances and the difficult terrain of the Amazon basin, would it be practical for a single pre-telegraph state to control everything east of the Andes?

Have Brazil occupy the 3 guainas when Europeans are locked in struggle (Napoleonic Wars? WWI? And, probably at a different time conquer Argentina (taking Uruguay en passant, and Paraguay and Bolivia see the writing on the wall and agree to annexation as autonomous republics).

Early on, most communication was by sea, and most settlement was near the sea. This alt-Brazil would have to be (or become) a significant maritime power.

It would help if they allied with the US to keep revanchist European powers from taking back their Guaina colonies.

Please use the Pre-1900 Mic thread for these sorts of WI.
