Whew, long title! This thread is for discussion of PODs for a Soviet victory in the Cold War and maps. Here's my map, still being worked on(light blue represents nations allied to the U.S., pinks represents nations allied to the USSR).

Wow.....that is one big-ass Israel.....:D

I don't get it.....a rediculously strong Israel + a democratic China to boot.....and the USA still loses?

Oy vey......

Other than Quebec, Canada's unity is too strong to get busted up like that.

Israel ruling over 60 million Muslims in Egypt and apartheid state South Africa ruling most of South and East Africa would make both places war-torn messes.

And yes - a powerful Israel and a demoratic China would open a big can of whupass on the USSR. Funny which states in Europe you chose to fall into Communist hands.....

I'd have it like this, assuming this is 2006.

- USSR has a massive influence in Europe, and France's riots of the 60s pushed the country into communism, a fact that isn't popular with Britain, Spain or the US. Yugoslavia, Hungary, Germany, Switzerland and Finland are shooting more for socialism than communism, like Hungary was in the 80s.

- Democracy in China comes about after Mao's death in 1976, but doesn't really explode until Tiananmen Square. China has its first free elections in 1992 and the communist Party gets massacred, but Xiaoping runs as an independent and takes over the country's presidency. China makes amends with Taiwan, formally recognizing its independence in 1995.

- North Korea attacks South Korea in 1996, but South Korea's powerful response and no help from China quickly sees the North overrun and the USSR doesn't want to fight the Chinese. The first elections for the unified Republic of Korea are held in 1998.

- Canada is divided in 1980 as Quebec declares independence, but the rest of the country holds together. Quebec is suppored by the Americans, whose militancy causes many problems. Canada moves its capital from Ottawa to Vancouver in 1991. The US' militancy causes a massive influx of people from the US into Canada, pushing Canada's populating from 19 million in 1980 to 42 million by 2006.

- The US gets viciously militant, which results in the nation moving more towards democratic fascism. California, Oregon and Washington State declare independence in 1986 and the US tries to stop it but its military power is eventually pushed over by the people and they withdraw in 1990.

- The Pacific Republic establishes their capital in San Francisco and quickly becomes an economic power, with a population of 59 million in 2006.

- Israel keeps the Sinal peninsula as Iran's militancy forces them to keep their wits about them. The world's Jewish population flocks to Israel as anti-Semitism flares repatedly in the USSR and in the USA. Israel's population in 2006 consists of over 11 million Jews and 2.7 million Arabs, and Tel Aviv-Yafo has become a high-rise megacity. They negotiate a permanent peace with Egypt in 1980. The United Islamic Republic and Israel sign a permanent peace deal and recognize each other's right to exist in 2003, on the condition Israel recognizes all people regardless of religion as full citizens. Sharon is railroaded into such a deal by Peretz and others in the Knesset.

The House of Saud falls in a revolution in 1983, despite American attempts to return them to power. The Al Thanis of Qatar change ranks in 1992, and their stance along with the troubled economy in Arabia cause another revolution in 1997. The moderates seize power in Riyadh, which results in a rapid rise in the nation's income.

- In 1970 Europe's independent states pull for a group of nations outside the UN which are not aligned with the USA or USSR. Britain, Spain, Portugal, Italy, Japan, South Korea, Australia, New Zealand, Argentina and Brazil are charter members. Canada joins in 1982, followed by Israel in 1985. China, The Pacific Republic, United Islamic Republic, Mexico, Venezuela and Algeria join in 1991. South Africa is admitted after apartheid laws are dismantled in 1994.

In 2006, tensions between the USSR and USA are high, as both sides are itching to confront one another. The non-aligned states union have assurances from both sides that there will be no attacks on NAS states but nobody takes this seriously. The NAS states are mostly socialist but free market nations.

To sum up:

China - democratic, moderate state. Economic powerhouse, now beginning to build world-class products in virtually every category. Has steadfast allies in Taiwan, Japan, Korea, Australia, Canada and the Pacific Republic.

USA - democratic nation but fiercely patriotic and has become infamous for its right-wing views and social problems. Ecomomy is still powerful, but social problems are causing issues. Mostly alone but with allies in the Middle East, Africa and Asia.

USSR - communist state, but communism is beginning to erode. Economic problems plague the hardline republics. Europe's unity is strong, but that of the Muslim Soviet areas is an increasing problem. Allies worldwide.
