Sense its filled in I'm going to assume that those aren't the true borders and more like Approximations, however its still intresting to see who exsists...

And... Nikaia after the revolution (note that "Nikaia" is envisioned as the first book in a trilogy - therefore, there are going to be more border changes).

The "Roman Empire" in Italy is the Imperial remnant, under a member of the Acropolites dynasty (the Imperial dynasty in the novel). The "Roman Republic" is a Revolutionary France-like state with the capital in Constantinople.

The Bulgarian Republic is a breakaway state, heavily nationalistic. The Duchy of Rum is led by a number of Christianized Turkish generals that elected one of their own to be a Duke, and are watching with wary eyes to see who will prevail in the oncoming civil struggle.

The Empires of Cilicia, Alexandria, and Antioch are all the breakaway states, with local governors or military commanders declaring themselves to be the "legitimate" Emperors (under a Mandate of Heaven - like idea).

Intresting...:)

Heres a sequel to the map posted a page back. Green is the british empire, Red is the united states of America, pink is american territories, while blue is French and brown is Sweden. Whoo:) . Should I continue?

My first "Multiwank" scenario:

aa2006.PNG

Britwank factor: pretty high. OTL British Empire plus more territory plus they obviously kicked French ass. Known for things like curried fish and chips. Big oil power (it strikes me the biggest mistake the Brits made was giving up the oil-bearing parts of the Empire!).

Ameriwank factor: also fairly high. Most of Central America and the Caribbean, Suriname, bits of Africa... home of the free, capitalist democracy.

Portu/Brazilo-wank factor: fairly high. Unified Portugal/Brazil has more colonies than OTL and is pretty prosperous. Known for VERY hot women!

Italiwank factor: Medium/medium-high. Italy is the top Mediterranian power, also kicked French ass, and holds a pretty good area, although it isn't a power in the same sense as the British, US, or Portu-Brazil. Decent-to-good food, although I wouldn't want to be an Arab in its territories.

Germaniwank factor: Medium. Unified the German-speaking areas, kicked French ass, has colonies. Danzig is Polish, though. Ruled by the house of Hohenzollern-Hapsburg-Saxe-Coburg-Gotha or somesuch.

Polewank factor: Medium. Surviving Poland-Lithuania, pseudo-democracy. Food isn't much to write home about, though...

Sinowank factor: Medium. China is alive, healthy, rules many of its neighbors, and is stronger than Japan. It's my compensation to Hendryk for clusterf***ing France.... think a cross between Manchu China and Singapore.

Serbowank factor: Medium. OTL 1914 Serbia + all of Bosnia. Not too bad, unless you're a Croat or Muslim.

Grecowank factor: Medium. Constantinople plus other sizable chunks of Turkey, and North Epirus too. No Cyprus or colonies, though. Nice food, people are friendly to non-Turks, etc.

Scandiwank factor: low-to-medium. Scandinavia is unified but doesn't have any significant colonies. Happy-lovey social democratic state.

Hungariwank factor: low-to-medium. Independent and most of 'Greater Hungary'. Ruled by a local monarchy, one that's very crass and over-sexed but not truly tyrannical.

Kurdiwank factor: low-to-medium. Independent but landlocked Kurdistan. Tribal state, pseudo-democracy if you aren't an Armenian or Arab.

Thaiwank: low-to-medium. Thailand is independent and it rules the southern third of Indochina. Not too bad, but could be better. Yummy food, very loose mores, stable-ish gov't.

Russowank factor: low. Russia's there, but it isn't any stronger or weaker than OTL. It's missing some far west bits to Poland, but it does have the Kuriles and Sakhalin. It's a constitutional monarchy under Menshevik rule.

Ethiopiwank factor: just a smidgeon above nonexistant. Ethiopia has a tiny coastline and a few boundaries adjusted in its favor... and that's it. Poor but improving.

Nations screwed over by the 'wank': Spain, France, Turkey, Japan (sorta), several central / south American countries, Belgium, and Luxembourg.

WORLD, 1960.
world1960zw6.png

The British turn many of their colonial lands into Dominions of the Commonwealth, in order to better facilitate their total independence. The Belgians have relinquished control over the Congo very quickly, and chaos is rampant. Katanga has seceded from the new Republic of the Congo. To the north, Sudan and Egypt were separated in 1952; in that same year, Pharoah Farouk was overthrown and assassinated, and Prince Tewflik was made regent whilst Pharoah Fu'ad II grew up to ruling age. Ghana, Senegal, and Mauritania have become fully independent. To the East, in China, the Empire of Asia has regained control of southern china; the Empire and the PRC have made peace, and a treaty has been signed recognizing the PRC and establishing the borders. In Persia, the remnants of the Socialist Republic of Bactria and the Afghani People's Republic have merged their territories into the People's Republic of Persia. Soviet aid to them further increases their danger to the Persian monarchy.

Some of those aren't really wanks.

Ethiopia getting a coastline, for example.

China taking Korea, Mongolia, and Vietnam isn't quite wank either. I think that's more of the lines of "Fallacies of Alternate History," at least for Mongolia

Give the Netherlands to Germany, just so they can have more colonies.

Oh, cmon, Midgard. That isnt like you. Using OTL borders? Thats just cheap and unrealistic!

Besides, Frankia != France. The Frankish Empire was both France and Germany, which are its two sucessor states ;)

Well, the POD is in the XIth century, although... let's just say there is more there than meets the eye. And there is a good reason why some borders are OTL... it just will not be revealed until quite late into the book.

The Franks settled in france long before they made the carolingian empire.

Err, no. The corelands of both the Salic and the Ripuarian Franks were in Germany, even by todays borders!

Still, the Gauls also settled in what is today France, yet the French surely cannot claim continuity from the Gauls, even if some nationalist mythologians do. Thats no definition point.

France is the West Frankish Realm, Germany is the East Frankish Realm, both established in the treat yof Verdun 843. It are sucessor states to the same Emprie, to which both nations have the SAME amount of claim.

And - I see, midgard...
