3rd Party what if?

George Wallace revives the Dixiecrat Party and permanently splits from the Democrats.

The Democrats become a mostly "left party"
The Republicans become the centrist party, and are often nicknamed "Third Way Champions"
After 1976 The Dixiecrat Party abandons the segregation policy and renames it's self " American Freedom Party"

NEW YORK TIMES Friday October 7th

At first an underdog Senate Majority Leader Bernie Sanders has reached to the top in the polls among Democratic Primary voters. A founding member of the DSC Democratic Socialist Caucus, Saunders is overpowering perceived frontrunner John Kerry. If Sanders wins the primaries he will be a striking contrast from the bland and placid 2008 nomination of Albert Gore.

I lol'ed at the concept of VP North.

hahaha...

I think i have saunders become the favorite ,.. but in the primaries Kunnich will rise up brilliantly and the contest will become a death match between the two.

As for the Republican Primaries...

Two large candidates Vice President Huntsman and Secretary of Treasury Bobby Jindial

hopefully constructive criticism

Please don't take this the wrong way, but may I suggest you spell-check and google folks before writing? It's very hard to stay engaged when you've managed to misspell basically everyone you want to play a role in this TL:

Curtis LeMay
Bernie Sanders
Bobby Jindal
Cynthia McKinney
Dennis Kucinich
Mo Udall
Paul Laxalt

Also: I assume the POD includes Ronald Reagan being assassinated sometime in the late 60s?

Ronald Reagan is killed by a black panther in 1975.

It's a third party that can't last. Too small to win and too large to be ignored and not absorbed by one of the major parties.

What are you basing all these projections on? It looks like you did no research at all for this and just wrote what looked fun and cool to you. You're whole scenario lacks plausability in many, many ways.

The segregationist George Wallace decides that he can no longer trust the Democrats, while doing poorly in the early 70's the party did not die and was able to ride on a resurgence of conservatism.

The Republicans continue to become the "main moderate party" but lose in 1980 because of the hostage and oil crisis.

In the 90's it again diminishes only to rise again in the 2000's due to Islamic Terror attacks and a larger pink tide as they become increasingly homophobic they refuse to join one of the two "normals"
