1956 Buenos Aires Olympics

On 28/04/1949 the IOC and voted Melbourne host of the 1956. Melbourne won by 1 vote.

Buenos Aires was the runner up. If Buenos Aires won, what would be the effect on Argentina? Australia? the wider world?

Australia might still host at a later point, but not neccessarily Melbourne. Sydney would be the only real alternative as an Australian host until post-commonwealth games Brisbane from the mid 1980s onwards.

Would an Olympics in 1956 butterfly away the demise of Juan Peron?

Depending on the success of these Olympics, the IOC may shy away from returning to the Southern Hemisphere so soon. It took 44 years between the Melbourne and Sydney Olympics after all.

Perhaps something like this could transpire:

1956 - Buenos Aires, Argentina
1960 - Rome, Italy
1964 - Tokyo, Japan
1968 - Mexico City, Mexico
1976 - Montreal, Canada
1980 - Moscow, USSR
1984 - Los Angeles, USA
1988 - Sydney, Australia
1992 - Barcelona, Spain
1996 - Athens, Greece
2000 - Beijing, China
2004 - Paris, France
2008 - Seoul, South Korea
2012 - Chicago, USA

First of all, you forgot to mention 1972. Also, I think that the following would have transpired:

1956 - Buenos Aires, Argentina

1976 - Montreal, Canada
1980 - Moscow, USSR
1984 - Los Angeles, USA
1988 - Seoul, South Korea
1992 - Barcelona, Spain
1996 - Atlanta, USA
2000 - Beijing, China
2004 - Athens, Greece
2008 - Sydney, Australia
2012 - London, UK

In other words, much like OTL, except that 1968, 1972, 2000, and 2008 as well as 1956 are changed around.
