Map Thread XIII

This is the completed topographic stage of a fantasy world that I've been working on for some time. I've called it "Rada" for now, but I've been having second thoughts on that name as of late. As for the backstory, I'll discuss that once I have some cultural and political maps done.

I am considering using one of your continents in the Nation Drop III mapgame and having it settled with (my own) alien species. I will naturally be giving you full credit for the continent, and thus I hope that this is okay.

If permission is not denied until 10 p.m. Berlin Time, I will assume that this is okay with you...

Since you've asked nicely, I'll allow it. In the future however, it would be safer for you to assume that no response means that it is not okay. There is a decent chance that I might not have even seen your request here.

Is that perhaps the result of a nuclear test/attack?

Not a nuclear weapon, but an attack of some sort. The inhabitants of the world believe that it and other such scars were made during the violent destruction of an ancient civilization.

Thanks for allowing me to use some of your lovely continents!

Why should I assume that some use is not permitted? Is that a general guideline or does that apply to you, personally?

China is roughly 11 times larger than Japan.
In 1900 India was 7 times larger than the UK.

It's more a matter of culture, perceived legitimacy of rulers, level of internal divisions, and development of nationalism which is the issue rather than sheer numbers. China in the 1900s is a "hard target" for outside domination in a way India in the 1770s wasn't (but was becoming by the 1920s. The rise of an all-India independence movement meant British rule of India was doomed by then).

I would consider it a general guideline. As I said, lack of response may just mean that they did not see your request. A post in a large thread can easily be overlooked (especially in this case; it's been a week since I posted the map and as such wasn't expecting more comments on it). Also, it's best to err on the side of caution in such matters.

What caution do you mean? Some legal issue? Because, AFAIK, for the rules of this site, it does not constitute plagiarism to copy somebody else's work if and as long as you give the author of the work credit or, if it is offsite, cite your source.

Is this correct?

Actually, regardless of where on the Internet something is posted, the author retains full copyright unless they specifically give up that right.

To be sure, most people here are a lot more easy going than that. But to assume permission is granted because of a lack of specific refusal is, quite literally, copyright theft.

I just wanted to know whether the rule against "plagiarism" on this site was remembered correctly by me... I know that actual copyright remains with whoever posted something.

And the religion map to go with that map. https://www.alternatehistory.com/discussion/showpost.php?p=11798559&postcount=8189

What's up with Madagascar there?

The Holy Malagasy Empire underwent a period of severe fragmentation after WWIII, and was pestered by missionaries from all over. Current national unity is highly theoretical.

(It's a Holy Roman Empire joke :( )

No no I get the HRE joke, I was just wondering what was up with the religious situation

Might want to ask the British Empire about that. Proportionately, the English were even fewer relative to the Raj back in the day.

China was completely incomparable to India, especially the "India" that Britain conquered in the in the 1700 and 1800s.
