  1. King Theodore's Corsica

Or he just gets called chancellor in english too. Makes sense for someone serving under a German monarch.
  2. WI Frederick Wilhelm IV accepts crown in 1849

No German unification under Prussian leadership can happen before the Crimean war and the Russo-Austrian split. Friedrich Wilhelm would have to walk back his German ambitions really fast under Russian pressure as he was historically at Olmütz.

If Britain is on the German/Austrian side, wouldn't they just win outright?
  4. King Theodore's Corsica

Just now I remembered a fact I stumbled upon a while ago that is on it's own just a random bit of historical trivia but kind of illustrates the problems with long running timelines: There is almost no black coal in the Austrian empire in it's borders of 1815. There's more than enough Lignite...
  5. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

Doesn't this just mean that basically everyone who isn't already ethnically German choses German as second language the way everyone learns English IOTL?
  6. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

The exception is of course Austrian, because it has it's own prestige centre I expect.
  7. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

If I understand it correctly, the second war will end, like the first one, in a limited German victory and we never see the kind of totalizing warfare of OTL ww2, is that correct?
  8. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

And presumably Austria is another story entirely. Even IOTL Germans have to take mandatory language classes if they want a permanent job in Austrian televison. Having any program presented in too 'German' German is seen as unacceptable.
  9. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

What's Austrian politics like? In OTL the German speaking part, before WW1, and especially after it, was spolitically divided between three camps that had a mutual origin in populist opposition to the Liberal dominance of the post-ausgleich years, the Social Democrats, the...

    What's up with Vienna?
  11. Why did Socialist Czechoslovakia's Economy perform worse than East Germany?

AFAIK a large amount Czechoslovak industry was concentrated in the Sudetenland, the expulsion of the Germans probably caused significant long term damage to human resources and institutionalized knowledge while directly transferring part of that loss to the GDR (although most Germans went to the...

Will there be something like the UN/league of nations? The way I would see it, there would be some international organizations in areas where cooperation is financially advantageous and there are little drawbacks. But the UN in it's current form with it's universalist (if practically...
  13. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

What exactly happens to Russia after the second war? It's probably still too big and populous to just outclass it and turn it into an ally like Germany was OTL. But there would obviously be a lot of pressure in Germany to neuter it in some very unpleasant ways after two wars that cannot even be...
  14. WI: The Franks settle Pannonia after the fall of the Avar Khaganate

What do you mean? By the time the Hungarians arrived, Germans (and Germanized Slavs) were the majority up to lake Balaton.
  15. WI: The Franks settle Pannonia after the fall of the Avar Khaganate

There was a large amount of colonization by Germans into Pannonia prior to the Magyar invasion (Ostsiedlung), the region would almost certainly have ended up German without it. I see no real reason why this couldn't have happened a few decades earlier.
  16. King Theodore's Corsica

Why not do the obvious for once and make it Austria? Prussia already needed countless lucky breaks to get where it got historically, forcing someone else to rise to the top would just feel silly by now. Add to that, that the whole 'million germanies' meme is an entirely ahistorical later...
  17. King Theodore's Corsica

Not sure about Gelders, wouldn't Austria want to not just recover lost territory, but also acquire something new?
  18. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

Might that be the Casus Belli for the second Great Eastern War? Hungary trying to break off with Russian help?
  19. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

To make it clear, I think it is in the interest of the Germans to keep Austria together (including Hungary). I also think it would be more likely than not that Austria-Hungary would remain united ITTL than not. This is also what I personally would prefer. However, the way I see this timeline...
  20. Es Geloybte Aretz Continuation Thread

I have a comment about your earlier post about Austria: You said at one time, that even if Austria collapses, it would not be at all likely, that any annexations for Germany would happen as a result of this (because of too many catholics or something like that). I find this rather unlikely. As...
