    Malaya What If

I grew up using the jungle carbine, as dad had purchased one for hunting purposes at some point. He thinks it was never used in anger though. Brother hass used it a bit in recent years for hunting but now has moved on to something more modern/lighter.

No Nazis but continued antisemitism on the European Continent, what happens?

Think a No Nazi Europe is a big enough butterfly to stop a 1936 Spanish Civil War/Franco being in charge.

NZ has a Westminster system and has been running a form of PR since 96 (3 year cycle) and sort of has retained the two Big Parties but at the same time growing around 4 smaller parties that rarely look like they'll supplant the big 2 so they act as support parties in electoral coalitions.

Scraping a Very Narrow Conservative Party Victory: A timeline from 1929

Interesting result for the Liberals - I get the feeling a lot of people with ambition were heading to Labour or the Conservatives from the mid 20s on, so the idea of the Liberals trebling their seats whilst the Cons halve theirs probably helps the Libs seem quite dynamic again

Must have been loads of stories like that. I recall finding a photo on an archive website from a local flour mill, who purchased a universal carrier to use as a tractor/transport unit

Sir John Valentine Carden Survives. Part 2.

You mean if the Germans don't invade USSR? Probably would harm them a fair bit, but on the other hand, they don't need to rebuild so much and there's been no disruption to technical training or industry, so they are better placed to organically improve. I think they'll just buy a lot of...

Given what the author's career has been, I am sure he has strong thoughts, many of which he has written down that expound upon future direction of the aircraft / other industries post war.

I think it can differ depending on what part of the country one is from as well. You could generalise about NZ that way quite safely most of the time but I have seen people say that the establishment of Melbourne and Sydney that went to English style private school and played Union were more...

British imperial identity is always a complicated issue and I think the best way to answer will be to make sure understand what the question is trying to determine. Freyberg is an interesting one. Born in England and a British soldier before (just) WW1, leading British (home) units during the...

    Keynes' Cruisers Volume 2

Sorry to see this finshed but I guess Fester needs his free time back too, so I am sure we will all cope. He also managed to largely escape the Curse of Surströmming over the years, so well done on that too!

Well in truth that is probably a failed attempt to force the ewe to adopt an orphan lamb as her own. Often ends up with securing the ewe and her legs so she can't attack the orphan

As the only Otago sheep farmer's son here this cuts deep. Although I remember at school we used to make these kind of jokes about Australians.

A Riot in Birmingham and the Death of David Lloyd George: A Timeline from December 1901

Surely "most Catholics" do not agree with the pastoral letter or the Nationalists would have won. By this I mean the vast majority of Spanish citizens at the time were practicing Roman Catholics and so presumably church attendance was higher then than say 21st century Spain in Republican or...

40 years since the Stanislav Petrov incident - where were you on Sept. 25/26, 1983? Would you have survived if the nukes were launched?

Rural Deep South Island of New Zealand so would be fine? No one has been able to demonstrate hard proof NZ gets any nukes in such a situation but even if it did, the nearest urban settlement was about 20km away and the nearest military base about 250km away. So I'd be fine in the short term...

A neighbourhood not far from where I live in SW London was a regular baseball pitch in the late 19th century, along with other sports like cycling (Hyde Farm, Balham for those who know the area).
