    In any case, the arms used in the flag by MissWhatsittoya are perfectly appropriate for a flag and should not use shading, as that is not how heraldry is represented on flags, and it would look terrible if it were not flat.

    It's interesting you mention the Pomaks. I was just reading about them this evening, and it turns out they had two separate attempts to create their own country in the late 1880s and early 1900s: the Republic of Tamrash and the Provisional Government of Western Thrace.

    That's Marajo, which is definitely an island. Although, to be, fair, maybe the channel separating it on the west side is too small to show on a world map.
