    Alternate “Mountain Turks “

The existence of questions regarding Moldovan ethnic identity is the very reason I mentioned them in this thread. The topic even has its own Wikipedia page. Now, I'm not going to go about claiming I have the answer to the question, but I will say you are wrong about Moldovans seeing themselves...

    Alternate “Mountain Turks “

Actually Bessarabia was carved out of Moldavia by the Russian Empire back in the 19th century. Needless to say, the region does have a history of existing as both an independent state (Principality of Moldavia) and as a constituent of bigger kingdoms & empires.

Here is another case that, while it exists OTL, could be a much more pressing issue in an ATL (or, God forbid, in the future): Moldovans — are they an ethnicity in their own right or just North East Romanians? Ironically unlike with the Kurds, Ruthenians, Tibetans, Bosnians or other...

AHC Siberia Split Off of Russia

Was a plot-point in the techno-thriller WWIII novels by Australian-Canadian author Ian Slater: In the aftermath of N.A.T.O.-Warsaw Pact war, Western forces enter European Russia and occupy Moscow. The Kremlin surrenders... yet pro-Soviet officials and military leaders retreat beyond the Urals...

DBWI: No Zaporozhian Cossacks in the American Revolutionary War?

O.O.C.: Inspired by this post. I.C.: What if Catherine the Great rebuffed King George's request for Russian troops to ait the British in the American Revolutionary War? What if the Zaporozhian Cossacks never arrived in Boston in the 1775-76 period? How would the War go? What might be the...

The (Global) South Rises: Collaborative TL

I thinks I spotted some continuity errors: Also there is this: King Idris announcing that Libya is seeking nuclear weapons dovetails nicely with the Aouzou War over uranium resources. But if Libya (unlike OTL) is a monarchy in 1974-1975 it is unlikely to be supported by the Soviet block. I...

The (Global) South Rises: Collaborative TL

I don't see any mention of "nuclear weapons-grade zone" in that link. Are we to assume that "nuclear weapons free zones"="nuclear weapons-grade zone"??? If so, why use a different term? November 17, 1989: Sony-Disney releases the animated film Princess Kaguya based on The Tale of the Bamboo...

If the Americans co-opted the Baathists after the 2003 invasion of Iraq?

Huh? So I guess Nordic countries are all dictatorships while the Federal Republic of Germany didn't truly become a democracy until 2011? :p

Somewhat the case with OTL Ruthenians/Rusyns: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ruthenians#Recognition_of_Rusyn_people https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rusyns And of course there are some Russian nationalists OTL who claim that Ukrainians and Belarusians aren't distinct ethno-linguistic & cultural...

No, I'm not asking about the "nuclear weapons free zones" -- I'm wondering what are "nuclear weapons-grade zones"?

AHC: Make Venezuela as rich as Saudi Arabia

I'm not sure why you guys are still trying to argue this. You can talk about "targeted individuals" or supposed "channels" all you want but at the end of the day we have evidence from US-based think-tanks showing that sanctions A) aren't effective in bringing about desired changes and B) hurt...

And as pointed out in this Deutsche Welle article for example US sanctions really do impact Venezuelans' access to medicines, water and basic necessities.

    DBWI: Divided Germany, United Japan

What if the Big Three had agreed on a different post-WW2 plans for the defeated Axis Powers? Specifically, what if the fates of Germany and Japan were reversed? Germany is divided into a Western-aligned nation and a Soviet-aligned nation while Japan remains whole & undivided. What could bring...

AHC: Form alternate/new ethnic groups of the world

That's not an alternate/new ethnic group, that's OTL: Sorry to break it to you, but unless you're postulating a pre-1800 POD, the Zaporozhian Cossacks were already gone by the 19th century. Though interestingly enough, one could conceive of a way to get them into North America...

AHC: Make Venezuela as rich as Saudi Arabia

Venezuela's problems aren't as simple as "capitalism vs socialism". Nationalization of the country's oil industry started under a US-friendly "capitalist" administration; as George Mason University associate professor Jo-Marie Burt puts it, "Venezuela has long been dependant on oil revenues, and...
