What do you guys think the status of Space Exploration would be ITTL? Personally, I think without the missile and rocket technologies needed by nations in WWII It would take longer for nations to reach major space milestones, for example, the moon landings may not have happened until the late 1970s.

so here's an idea for a multinational organization - a mitteleuropa-turned-eu. i think someone mentioned the mitteleuropa, which gave me this idea. during the 1st half of the 20th century, the mitteleuropa pact would function kinda like warsaw, with germany being the most powerful. other nations would join it out of fear of communism or the economic benefit of stronger ties to the reich. after the cold war, mitteleuropa would become much freer, with germany relinquishing control to a more democratic leadership process. this allows the democratic nations of western europe and the former communist nations of southern europe to join at the turn of the millenium, with more nations in the process of joining. britain is still stubborn about this continental system, preferring to trade with the commonwealth and america.

Prime Ministers of the Commonwealth of America.
  • Jack Layton replaces Blanche Lambert from 2008-2017. I know @Dustin had used this in his timeline, and I thought the idea of a surviving Layton was fantastic; I'm a conservative Republican and even I think the dude was cool.

Oh thank you for the shout out here. It's rather timely too since I'm currently planning on rebooting that TL.

That looks brilliant! How about something basic for the name. Like after France joins it becomes the European Community?

Updated the Green Party box to the list of party infoboxes. Keep up the great work! I'm starting classes again, so I might be quiet for a while even though I am checking the thread daily. If you have any questions just tag/@ me and I'll see what I can do. But it might be a day or two before I have anything of my own to offer up.

Even though Apartheid in SA may not exist it will not mean that South Africa is racial harmony, I think South Africa would still be working to bridge the divide between different peoples. The percentage of Whites will not be very large as a lot of OTL White South Africans may be in Madagascar or Congo but for the sake of having this political system work lets say its somewhere around 10-15% a little larger than OTL due to South Africa retaining more whites as people would leave after the fall of Apartheid.
[Disclmaer, I am going to use very blunt words to describe SA's racial groups]

For now, I'm going to make the decision that SA has a FPTP system with 400ish seats

Union Party 220/435 Seats
Centre-Right, (Conservatism, Economic Conservatism, Federalisim, Social Conservatsim)

South Africas compassionate conservative party. Economically Conservative but still surprisingly supportive of PJP’s more moderate economic justice plans. Has descended from the original Union Party at South Africa’s founding, been in and out of government since the 1910s. Popular among South African Christians and support is quite even across all racial groups.

Progressive Justice Party 159/435 Seats
Centre-Left, Left-Wing: (Social Democracy, Environmentalism, Anti-Racism, Minority Economic Empowerment)

Result of a Merger between the Justice and Progressive party in the 1990s. The largest advocate for economic realignment to improve the economic wellbeing of South Africa's disadvantaged Races who have lagged behind in average wealth ever since the countries founding. Also an advocate for social liberalism. Mainly popular among more progressive Blacks, Coloureds and a large majority of Asians. Has a sizable base of progressive White voters as well.

Labour Party (Arbeidersparty) 19/435 Seats
Centre (Socialism, Social Conservatism,)

Dethroned by its position of Major party in the 1990s Labour and descended more and more into irrelevancy barely staying above the ANC. Still a sizable force in Parliament though. Has a policy of ignoring race relations and instead focusing on support, however, the Blacks and Coloureds of South Africa have begun to feel ignored by Labour despite its “Colour Blind” Attitude. Socially Conservative as to appeal to Christians, ends up turning off more voters.

ANC 17/435 Seats
Left-Wing (African Nationalism, Anti-Imperialism Social Democracy, Black Economic Empowerment)

The African National Congress has been the original voice for racial economic and social justice since the 1910s. However, its proposals are often labelled as radical and impossible with the occasional accusation of racism. Popular among most impoverished Blacks

National (Nasionale) 9/435 Seats
Right-Wing (Nationalism, Pro-Imperialism, Afrikaner Intrests)

National is a part of and for Afrikaners. A minority of Afrikaners feel disestablished from the government and feel that the attitudes of racial equality being brought up are a threat to their livelihoods. Often promotes and sugar coats colonialism across Africa. Has a bad image across SA however is popular with a sizable amount of Afkinaers in former Transvasall allowing it to hold a handful of seats.

Democratic 6/435 Seats
Centre (Liberalism)

A Party mainly of British South Africans, No clear unique policy or political views so no clear support base, holds a couple of seats in cape town.

African Christian Democratic Party 4/435 Seats
Centre-Right, Right-Wing (Christian Democracy, Social Conservatism)

ACDP is less concerned with racial and economic issues as it is with keeping South African social policy conservative and Christian. Has a base with conservatve christans across all races

Conservative Party (Konserwatiewe Party) 1/435 Seats
Far-Right (White Interests, White Development, White Autonomy)

National but more extreme and with little to no filter. Actively supports white supremacist views and thoughts. Has managed to cling onto a seat in rural South Africa preventing it from leaving parliament.

Looks good, expect maybe not Italy. The rest of the post-left wing govts would of course get in like Poland and the baltics in OTL, but there might be too much bad blood on either side of the alps. Italy also probably won't want to surrender sovereignty to her former enemy. Perhaps one should think of a combination of OTL Norway and Hungary: a state that is happy to associate once it finds itself isolated, but refuses to sign on to anything deeper because of politics back home.

Maybe I am blanking here - but wasn't Ireland still under the UK/ It makes sense for more than 'border-porn' reasons: successful survival of the Home Rule Liberals (Social/Pink Liberals that were all ruined by WWI in OTL) versus anti-Imperialist Labour would adjust Irish policy - plus there is never anything like WWI to put Ireland in a political bind like OTL. Now this wouldn't be a case of the tans occupying all the Island, considering how things went in OTL the local government would end up with far more autonomy and devolved rights than OTL scotland, and then Ulster probably has even more devolved rights from this devolved Irish govt! It wouldn't be out of the question for the local govt to be an observer of whatever is occurring on the continent is such a capacity but serious foreign policy is still a london thing.

well what i was thinking was the pact became more just a way for the continent to trade/share defenses etc kinda like otl eu. and it would become much more democratic after the end of the *cold war. it would probably be controversial, but after the fall of the communist regime the public might be more accepting towards trade with the rest of europe.

also i thinking you're blankin on ireland. i'm pretty sure we let it go independent

I'm a little confused how the Cold War is supposed to go ITTL. Was it similar to OTL with communists vs. capitalist nations or was it between the Commonwealth and the Germany with a smaller socialist bloc third wheeling?

So I am confused. You have some maps giving the island independence. The Most Recent map does not though. And then there is also a Cold War map with the Island under the UK. It seems we have no idea about the Emerald isle, and everything so far has been hand-waving. Similar to the UK, the region probably needs a lore revisit since the UK and Ireland's history is tied at the hip, even when independent.

Multi-bloc conflict where initially nobody wants to go to war because the equivalent of WWI was far more deadly and long, and then superweapons hold everyone back.

So am I right in assuming the *Cold War lasts longer than OTL? A multi-faceted Cold War with a less defined ideological struggle (with the exception of the socialist bloc) sounds interesting.
