And this seems like it was the main goal, over half the forces involved were focused on securing the port specifically the HQs of the navy and army. It was very top secret stuff actually. When the raid failed they needed an excuse so as to not alert the Germans to the real objective.

I don't think a successful Dieppe would lead to a second front or early D-Day. I think that it would probably lead to an earlier cracking of Enigma though probably cementing the Allies position in the Atlantic a lot sooner. Thoughts?
