He did win 13% of the vote in Nevada in 1968, which was his best showing west of the Missouri (Texas and Oklahoma excluded). But 13% is still a car cry from the 35%+ he'd need to win. But his running mate is Walter Barring, a U.S. Rep from Nevada who was apparently a hardcore segregationist.
