Isolationist USA - 1937
"Kaiser!!! Kaiser Wilhelm!!!" The young secretary shouted. She had been appointed as the personal secretary of Kaiser Wilhelm III. She, had been tasked to provide the Emperor with news about world events. She had been given her own building on the imperial grounds and tasked with managing a small team of linguists that could help decipher and translate the news coming from the neighbors of the German Empire.
It had been a difficult decade so far. Not just for the German Empire, but for the rest of the world as well. In 1931, Kaiser Wilhelm II had passed the crown to his son. He saw himself getting old and ill and no longer fit to rule the Empire. Within the next few years, the world had changed drastically.
The global economic depression had changed the way many nations saw the world. The Netherlands, which had been under German Influence since the early 20's, had been requested by the Belgian Rump State, under direct German leadership and occupation since the end of the Great War, for a national union. The Dutch leadership agreed and the United Kingdom of the Netherlands was re-established, under the protection of the German Empire and with German influence abound within its parliament.
However, the depression lead to a rise in a new ideology, Fascism. It had managed to make an impressive footprint in Italy, and was now spreading throughout the rest of Europe. France had taken notice, and turned to a more drastic form of the Fascist ideology. National Socialism, lead by Charles De Gaulle, had become prominent in France and became the official party. De Gaulle had assumed the title of "Le Presidente"but ruled as a dictator. Though the freedoms of the French people were slowly being lessened, the improving economy overshadowed much of what was happening within the nation.
In 1935, De Gaulle reinstated national conscription. This was in direct violation of the Treaty of Amsterdam. And the following year, the Champagne region was re-militarized by the French Army. During this time, Greek Nationalists had taken advantage of the stagnant economy of the remains of the Ottoman Empire and invaded. De Gaulle, with the support and discontent of the French people, sent an expeditionary force to assist the Greeks. Within two months, the Ottoman Empire ceased to exist, replaced by the Turkish National Movement and their Republic of Turkey, and both Greece and France had new colonies within their realm.
But this was simply the tip of the iceberg that was racing towards the faux peace of Europe. And it would see its first blood stains in Spain.
Kaiser Wilhelm III had been awoken by his secretary and handed a translated document. He had looked towards her and smiled. She was a beautiful young lady, and while very strong physically and mentally, she had an aura of innocence and submissiveness that caught his eye. After all, She was his beautiful Wife's adopted niece. "Couldn't this wait until morning?" he questioned, his deep, sultry voice had awoken his wife, who had been cuddled close to him after a night of intimacy. She didn't speak, but looked on while still remaining under the confines of the bedspread.
"I do not think so your excellency. It was defined as an urgent telegram from the President of Spain." The young secretary spoke
Kaiser Wilhelm III was puzzled and looked at the telegraph. The message within was clear... and it did not look good. He looked over to his wife as she looked up at her husband, awaiting his word. Wilhelm kissed her deeply and stood. He was tall by German standards. And since his ascension to the German Throne, he had taken more personal time for himself to improve his physique. It worked wonders for him and drastically improved his love life with his wife. His personal trainer was impressed with his improvement, as was his secretary. He stood nude before the two women in the room and reached for his robes. "This is going to be a long night Cecilie, this is a matter of war and it might be several days before I return." He said with a rough but reassuring tone. He turned and left, His secretary behind him.
The German War Room was bustling and chaotic to say the least. Civil War had erupted in Spain and Germany had been asked to help.
"The French and Italians have already sent aid to Franco. If we sit by and refuse to come to their aid, we might as well let the French storm Berlin!"
"The Spanish monarchy has sided with the Nationalists as well. Supporting the Republic will only keep a corrupt leader in power."
"Enough!" Kaiser Wilhelm was infuriated. His Generals made valid arguments, but he had been awoken during a wonderful evening and was far more agitated than normal. He stood and looked around. His main goal was keeping the French away from Morocco. "The French and Italians knock on our door every morning. They challenge us to a skirmish that we have won in the past. But today is different. We have other issues to focus on." He words were lost on his generals, but the continued to listen.
"We will not sit by and watch as the stability of Europe falls into a chaos that will lead to another war. Instead, we will protect the vital interests of the German People, and their Glorious Empire. I will not lead our people into a war where both sides will lead to tyranny. We will not aid either side in this war. and any incursions into our possessions will be met with extreme prejudice."
The following morning. The Soviet Union had taken the call and assisted the Republican faction in the Spanish Civil War. But Kaiser Wilhelm was not happy. He took his wife to Vienna for a quick vacation. After a week, He abdicated his throne, a reign of only six years. The New German Emperor, the young and brash Ludwig Ferdinand was crowned Emperor of Germany and King of Prussia. He and His wife, Grand Duchess Katya of the Romanov Family (youngest child, younger sister of Alexei) returned to Berlin where they began to rule. Kaiser Ludwig and Kaiserin Katya soon turned to one another and their families when issues became too large for them to solve. By the beginning of 1937. They had strengthened the German Economy and its Military without resorting to the death throes of Fascism. Both Ludwig and Katya knew that there was a storm coming, and they both wanted Germany to be prepared for its landfall.
